They are what you think they are. Wool military glove liners. I wear them as normal gloves in Michigan and they keep my hands warm in the cold but not sweaty. They regulate temperature well.

I wear these under my disposable nitrile gloves for outdoor water sampling. The wool wicks away sweat from the skin keeping my hands warm and dry in the winter.

These fit good, but would work better if you use a liner. They really aren't very warm.

Real, scratchy wool gloves. They are slightly over-sized and will shrink down slightly if you wash them gently and air dry them. They have long wrist covers that can go up under a coat or shirt so you don't have a sliver of your wrist exposed. Wool gloves also keep most of their heat retaining properties when wet. I have not worn them for long but they feel like they will hold up to moderate use without ending up full of holes like cheap gloves.
