I'm day 2 and 4 hours into assembling this. I'm working on this with my 9 y/o nephew. I have a display of Legos that my nephews assemble and feel proud coz I display them in my house. This is definitely the toughest task that we have embarked upon. It's definitely frustrating and few components had to be bent a bit to align properly. Just from assembling around 40% of it I can tell that final product is going to look pretty intricate and nice. Only thing I could ask to be improved upon is the proper alignment of certain things. But it's definitely a great gift for teenagers and adults that love challenging puzzles and Legos!!

Let me preface this review by saying I’ve never done a kit like this before. I’m a beginner.90% of this model went fine. The pieces are small and difficult to line up, especially if you’re someone with big fingers. I started this project with an “assembling furniture” attitude of not tightening the screws too much until the end… mistake. Those that were not overtightened quickly came undone. Fine, live and learn, I tightened as much as I could for the rest of the model and it went better. Now again, I’m a beginner, so I could have made mistakes… but I swear there are some steps that are physically impossible. There was a step in particular on the head where the only way to get all the pieces to fit on the screw was to get them snug, but there was a washer from a previous step that prevented that. Metal is very unforgiving with things like that, there’s no filing it down or cutting it to size. Also, even though it’s packaged well, some pieces were slightly bent (ie not exactly a 90 degree angle, or two sides not being exactly parallel) and if you didn’t stop to fix them with the pliers, they could cause problems down the line. Finally, the tail problem. You can see in my last picture, there’s a metal bar and a round piece that serves as the “bones” of the tail. The instructions want you to use the pliers to attach the round piece to the bar. The kit includes two of each piece. The problem is… the bar is malleable. So when I clamp down, the bar squishes. I tried with both sets of pieces, and I just could not securely attach these together! I finally said “good enough” and moved on… but when I attached the tail to the body at the end, it fell apart. I got it put back in, but now I’m afraid to handle the model too much. I don’t see why they couldn’t have premade a special rod for such an instrumental piece. The end product looks cool. I definitely spent more than 10 hours on it. But I dare not breathe on it or look at it wrong. There are lights under the wings, but they’re too awkward to get to to turn them on, and I just don’t care that much. Maybe a more experienced builder would have a better time than me… or maybe these are universal problems.

I really enjoy putting together Lego models, and thought this looked like a fun, interesting model to put together. Sadly, it's proved to be a very frustrating experience, and I don't think I'm going to come close to finishing it.First, the good: there are a ton of parts, all of which seem to be well made. There are so many tiny screws, nuts and plates, all well labeled and sorted into different sections. They even include a pretty nice screwdriver and pair of pliers. My biggest issue is the assembly procedure: many steps involve screwing a tiny, tiny nut onto the end of a tiny screw, with a whole stack of parts in between them. Getting everything lined up and threaded is an exercise in frustration, even using the tools provided. I can't count the number of times I had to pull out a flashlight to look for a tiny part that fell into the carpet after the stack slipped. If you have four or five hands it's probably easy, but with my two it wasn't.Second, the nature of screws into plates are that things aren't lined up very precisely. And that's before they start telling you to bend a plate to "roughly 45 degrees". It's fine at first, but when you start putting larger pieces together the tolerances are very tight to not have hardware running into each other. I had a lot of trouble with nuts that needed to go where other posts already were. After a couple of hours and getting through about three pages of instructions, I put it down in frustration. I might try again later (the end product does look neat), but this is very much not a fun, relaxing project. It's a pain.
