Product Description

Take control of the lighting around you with the Nikon SB-300 AF Speedlight for D-SLRs and hot-shoe equipped Coolpix cameras. Find new inspiration: use the 120° tilting head to bounce the flash off a nearby wall or ceiling (bounce flash), eliminate unwanted shadows on your subject (fill-flash) or illuminate a poorly lit scene with a soft, balanced light tailored to your shot. Shed Light on New Opportunities With the SB-300 AF Speedlight, you'll enjoy a flash that's soft and balanced for excellent color, skin tones and lighting throughout your entire composition-not just on your main subject. Use it in bright situations to fill in unwanted shadows (fill-flash), or use its 120° tilt capability to bounce your flash off the ceiling or a nearby wall for even softer, less direct lighting on your subject (bounce technique). Outstanding Flash Precision Nikons i-TTL (intelligent Through-The-Lens) flash coverage technology tailors the characteristic of the flash to the shot. An imperceptible pre-flash fires milliseconds before the main flash to gather information about the scene-shadow areas, subject distance and reflectance. Your i-TTL capable camera and the SB-300 AF Speedlight then work together to achieve the best exposure and white balance setting possible, all in a fraction of a second.

From the Manufacturer

Lighting simplicity
The right lighting can transform an everyday shot into an extraordinary memory. Even if your camera has a pop-up flash, an external Speedlight provides capabilities and control that every shooter can appreciate—so much more than simply illuminating a dimly lit scene. The compact, lightweight SB-300 AF Speedlight makes it easier than ever to harness the power of a Nikon Speedlight. With its simple operation, excellent performance and approachable price tag, the SB-300 AF Speedlight belongs in the camera bag of every D-SLR or accessory-shoe equipped COOLPIX owner. Take control of the lighting around you.

The only thing it's missing is a manual test fire I bought it to pop some trees in the dark on long exposure astrophysical. Didn't work for what I needed but I'm keeping it anyway for other daytime portrait work

Pequeño tamaño, va un poco justo de potencia, pero te saca de un apuro. Lo mejor que lo llevas siempre.

I'm a working photographer and often need fill light for outside shots, or flash for inside shots, but I hate walking around with a gigantic flash to complete the "professional photographer" look. And honestly, I love the way the in-camera flash makes the images look, but it doesn't look professional and leaves a shadow with some of my larger lenses. This flash is exactly what I wanted. It is just enough flash to illuminate without washing out, is easily used via your Automatic in-camera menu, and sits high enough to not leave a shadow with larger lenses. Perfect. It does take a little time to power up, but you can adjust that via the menu, and it becomes pretty reasonable after you do. This shot above was taken on the first day I used it... simply a fill flash for a wedding reception.

This is an excellent powerful compact flash from Nikon which used the iTTL system so the flash is controlled completely by the camera so one has a 95% chance of getting a properly exposed flash photo. The unit is totally controlled by a suitable Nikon Cameras (I use D3500) even including switching off the unit when the camera goes into stand-by mode and on again when the shutter is pressed half-way. Used with a variety of Nikon lenses it seems to be almost foolproof. You can angle it up for bounced flash to give more even lighting. There are no controls on the unit except an on/off switch, everything is worked out by the camera and flash so you can concentrate on taking the photo.Expensive but well made and highly recommended, it comes with its own small soft carry bag, and fits in the palm of your hand. Being light and compact it is ideal for everyday carrying about.

Love this little flash! It's light, small and so easy to stuff into a pocket and carry. In real world use, it's quite powerful not-withstanding its modest guide number. It integrates beautifully with Nikon digital SLRs providing very accurate through the lens exposure. The battery seems to last forever, and because it uses easily obtained AAAs (two), they can be replaced anytime and obtained internationally without difficulty - no need for another power adaptor! My only negative observation is that it doesn't swivel (left or right) but does tilt upward and even backward (slightly) for indirect flash. For the price, weight, size, and versatility, I couldn't be happier with this. It's so much more convenient than my SB-800 hunker. It doesn't replace the newer bigger units, but it's a great travel flash, especially for the D500 and D810 which don't have built in flash (it's way better than the built in flash anyway).

The SB-300 is what it is, and that is absolutley outstanding. I wanted a speedlight that I could carry in my pocket and slip on my D3s or Df when I needed just a bit more illumination to fill shadows or make a scene a bit brighter. I was scheduled to go for a hop on one of the last flying WWII B-17's and wanted a backup just in case the cabin was not as illuminated as I had hoped/assumed. I ordered the SB-400, but the supplier had over-committed and couldn't ship it. So I ordered the SF-300, and I love it. I did need just a bit of a boost in the interior of the B-17, and this little gem was only perfect for that assignment.I don't get the rap's on it. Yes, it uses AAA batteries as opposed to AA's. So what? They are lighter and Eneloop offers them as rechargables, and a couple of extras in your pocket could get lost with the loose change and lint. It does not tilt straight up, but why would you want to? It'll tip to all of the angles I use on my SB-800's and SB-900...quite enough to do the job. Is this a flash you'd take on a "shoot" to be artificially lit, or one you'd shoot into an umbrella? Of course not. If you want to do that kind of work, buy that kind of equipment. But if what you are looking for is just a bit of a boost or fill light that is easily carried along, this little jewel is for you.

First of all, this flash is much smaller than it appears and that is a good thing. While I enjoy my Nikon DSLRs, and the images they produce, I grew tired of lugging my DSLR, a couple of lenses or a heavy 28-300 and my SB-910 around. While it is great for portraits or certain events, I found I was breaking the cardinal rule of, "The best camera is the one you have with you." I just really didn't want to carry all that gear.Along came the Nikon P7800 camera. Excellent image quality and nice, small size. The Nikon SB-300 speedlight is the perfect complement. It is so tiny. If you have ever held or have seen the SB-400, this unit is even smaller. I love it! Now, I have a very compact camera system that I have with me all the time. I can tuck the camera and this tiny flash in my small bag and go.I always have them with me and with this speedlight, I am always able to expose my shots properly with adequate lighting. It is an excellent buy!

Wow... This is a very small flash unit. fits in the palm of your hand. It is built very well as you would expect. It is very simple. Very portable. Just an on-off switch. I'm sure that you're paying a premium for the Nikon brand. It works well providing slightly better exposure than the pop-up flash and more distance and much better exposure in bounce mode. I am working on making a small diffuser cap for it to see how that works. I am glad that I bought it.
