Very Nice wheel the only down side is the wooden insert has a single 1/8 Allen set screw that depressing into wood and keeps coming lose will need to find different insert when it falls out. Hard to believe the quality of wheel and the POS wood insert.

I may have received an especially well-made steering wheel, but mine is excellent. I carefully inspected each of the spokes, concerned that they would loosen like they have for others. Mine are well welded in place on both ends. I don't see this becoming an issue. My center cap was made of real teak. It was stained and poly'd. It stays in place with an allen screw on the side. I am using this on a Boston Whaler, and it is smaller than the original, but works better. It fit perfectly on the steering shaft that was original to the boat. What a great value and improvement over the 1970 plastic one.

The spokes on this wheel became loose after less than 40 hours of service. They’re still connected to the hub but give and make high pitched noise during normal service. The wheel fits perfectly on a Bay Star helm. This is a decent unit and could be built stronger. The wooden center cap comes unfinished. I stained it and used polyurethane to protect it.Update: at 150 hours of service all but one spoke is firmly connected to the hub. Spend a little more if you’re looking for anything more than a movie prop.

Fit perfectly, replacing the plastic one. The angle of this one is slightly higher so it does not scape like the last one. Looks great and the insert is quality wood that matches the birch interior.

This is a very nice, solid, sturdy Destroyer wheel. I have a 16 ft. center console and when I replaced the steering gear (steering box, cable) I wanted to put a new wheel on the boat too. The old wheel (heavy emphasis on the word "old") was made of some sort of plasticized hard rubber and it was frankly nasty. Years and years of hand oil, motor oil, motor fuel, fish slime and general grunge had accumulated on and eaten up the wheel. It was time to find a new wheel.It's hard finding the right size Destroyer wheel because I needed a 13 inch wheel and most of them are bigger. A 13 inch wheel is all that will comfortably clear everything else on the console. Many of the wheels I looked at cost around twice as much as this one did.The wheels spokes are gathered and locked into a central star and a cover made of what looks like teak wood snaps over the top. The description says "bakelite cover" but mine doesn't look like bakelite, nor does the product picture. Mine looks like the one in the picture. My boat, being a center console, has grab rails around the console but I often find myself using the wheel as a grab hold when moving around on the boat. I'm not a small person, so that's likely considerable stress on the wheel itself. It's not a problem, I've been using this wheel for several months and it's as solid as the day I mounted it.This wheel is rock solid and a perfect finishing touch for my new steering system. I'm very happy with it and never have hand/fish/oil/fuel/grunge on my helm any more!
