Your cart is empty.Spring for the Pedro's USA Chain Keeper and say goodbye to flaccid chains. The Chain Keeper mounts in your rear drop out, keeping tension on the chain so you can stroke, pull, grease, and clean your chain without worrying about it falling or swinging around. The quick release lever comes in handy for those quickie sessions.

I use a wax/graphite mixture for my chain. I melt the mixture in a shallow pan and then soak my chain in it. I found that over the years, I could avoid going through the whole process of removing my chain and re-soaking it in the melted mixture by taking a propane torch and heating up the chain slowly and evenly by cranking the pedals. The only problem was that the rest of the bike and the wheel were in the way. I bought the Pedros' because it's the only one I found with an offset that lifts the chain up and away from the hub. Heating the chain moderately while it's moving around does do the trick and allows the wax/graphite to flow back into the load-bearing spaces. Excellent way to cleanly lube your chain.

Saw a chain keeper used in a You Tube video (Chris Horner's bike washing video) where a chain keeper is used to keep the chain taught with the rear tire removed, searched on Amazon and found this one by Pedro's. Works great, allows me to remove the rear tire, and still do chain cleaning, etc. without damaging my bike. My only peeve is that there were no instructions, not even a simple diagram, which would have been helpful for first time user. Otherwise I am happy with this simple device.

Once attached to my bike, it allows the chain to no longer rub across the chain stay and acts as a rear chain 'channel' that your chain slides through and around allowing the chain to move or just be held in place . The downside is that there are just too many loose pieces that easily fall and its quite cumbersome to attach. (I'm sure its design was to accommodate almost every bike on the planet- but that is whats wrong with it) There are SEVEN parts (four of them small- including a spring that loves to fly away and the actual 'track' is two pieces that split apart- I had to use a tiny zip-tie to keep it together) that all need to be assembled and disassembled each time its attached and then again when its removed. I have yet to not have a part pop-off and fall during each process. Try removing the rear tire, wrapping a greasy/dirty chain around it and fumbling with assembling this and attaching it to your chain-stay without cursing its design- its just not possible. It does work great.... once its attached.

After cleaning my bike with Pedro's chain keeper for the first time I can't go back. It makes is so much easier. No degreaser and lube flying over the wheel/tire.

It does keep the tension on the chain, out of the way and allows limited movement of the chain if you are rotating the pedals. However, is it really necessary? I found it somewhat useful but by no means will this be a critical piece in your toolkit. Now getting past the utility issue:Construction quality:Good except for the retaining nut. It is not one solid piece but instead an assemblage of stamped pieces with a regular nut inside. It readily fell apart on the first use. Fortunately it can be either replaced or reassembled.Simply, I wish I did not purchase this poorly constructed marginally useful product.

Definitely works, just takes some time and dirty hands to learn how. The instructions just don't show enough. Each side of the device has a large or small diameter cylinder designed to fit inside the chain-stay opening where the hubs would go, so you need to figure which one works for your bike first. Then assemble the Keeper with the narrow nose pointing toward the crank and the quick-release on the inside of the chain-stay. Easiest transfer is to have the bike on a repair stand and slide the Keeper in as the wheel is dropped out.

This is one of those devices that you don't really need but for the low price it's well worth it. If you like to remove your rear wheel when cleaning your bike and chain then this device is quite handy. It makes the whole cleaning process neater and easier. It gets the chain up and out of the way. This way it doesn't hang on your chainstays and do any damage, make a mess or get in the way. Installation instructions would have been nice but I was able to figure it out and a Google search helped too.

This is one of those simple items that make life for a cyclist easier. Yes you can go without it but I find this chain keeper to be very useful. It keeps the chain from flapping around or falling off of the cog. Installation is easy so it takes no effort to put it on. You can even spin the pedal to clean your chain with the rear wheel off if you use this chain keeper. It probably isn't a good idea to spin it too much because the plastic will wear out from where the chain rubs the plastic.

Pedro's Chain Keeper Bicycle Chain Tool allows you to manoeuvre the chain without the bike's rear wheel on during maintenance/cleaning. I have used it to effectively hold the chain while rotating the pedals forward and wiping the chain clean. Meanwhile, the rear wheel is also much more accessible to clean and maintain. Pedro's Chain Keeper provides an effective approach to productively accomplishing maintenance. It adds convenience and simplification to the common care and upkeep duties of the cyclist. I purchased this product because I was annoyed with the unpredictable deformity of the chain whenever the rear wheel was removed. This was discouraging to my maintenance plans, and possibly even detrimental to the functionable value of the bicycle and its parts. I would recommend this chain keeping tool to others with similar circumstances because of its effectiveness with simplifying some mechanical processes. This can make some work projects more enjoyable, and in the long run, be a major contributor to adding value to the bicycle.
