Over all I really like this i got it to keep my dogs out of my kitchen its nice came with the easiest way to install I do say it needs to be in lock if your trying g to keep kids out cuz I have one dog that like to try going under I don't always lock

Bought this for a cat gate. We have one that has gone blind, that I need to keep out of the main house. The others can jump over, but it keeps her from getting out and getting lost.

I use the gate to keep the dog (Siberian) out of the family room. Originally, I used a metal gate that worked fine except it was difficult to open and laundry baskets had to be lifted over the top due to the narrow opening.Since the Perma gate retracts the entire width of the doorway, laundry baskets are not a problem. On my first Perma gate, the handles that fit into the catches eventually broke off. My new (second) gate has two design improvements I love. First, the handles are gone and a thicker rod fits into the catches. Second, the opening mechanism can be set to "unlock" so opening the gate become a one-handed operation. For this with kids and not dogs, the mechanism also has two "locked" settings.

The construction of this gate seems solid and feels like it will last a long time with proper care. The mesh feels heavy duty and I am confident my dog won't go through it (or even try), but if you have a pet that is an avid chewer or scratcher of other items in your home then this could be another target of destruction. But that is through no fault of the gate itself.A couple of the positive items about this gate (besides the quality construction): The instructions were easy to follow. They have a QR code for a video but I didn't even need it. They include screws (and anchors if needed) and have spacers to help work around base molding trim if needed. The template had perforated holes where the screw holes are to be. This is the first time I've seen a company do that with a paper template and it made marking the holes easy compared to trying to gouge a hole through the paper yourself. You could also drill through the template but that isn't always ideal either.Some items to be cautious of about this gate: The gate is advertised as 33" tall but the mesh height is 30-1/2". The only thing 33" is the overall height of the spool mechanism on one side. That is not a particularly useful dimension for anything, since any doorway is going to be much taller than 33". It is advertised to fit openings up to 71". This is probably true but I measured 71" as the max possible width including the spool mechanism on one side and hooks on the other. If your opening is actually a full 71" it would be a challenge to actually close the gate since you have to pull a little further to engage the hooks. You may find that this works better in max openings at or slightly above 70". Also, the instructions indicate a pilot drill bit of 5/65" - this is not a common drill bit size in the US so it seems they meant 5/64" (2mm for the metric folks).

This is my third different retractable door I have installed, and this one needs to be drilled to the wall because it won't stay up. It retracts easily without any hard pulling. The lock feature works and is ideal for protecting your kids and pets. The gate is very strong and fits in most doorways.
