My daughter is 5 and is in the process of learning to read so I thought these would be great and fun for her. There are no instructions on how to use this so I made up my own. I took a few of the discs, took them apart and had her search for words with a particular sound. She didn't fully understand the color coding and she did get frustrated numerous times when she couldn't find one. When she wasn't upset she was having fun with it. We are going to continue to use this but stick to only two discs in one session because I think more is overwhelming for a new reader. She had some issues putting the pieces together. Keep in mind she is extremely good at puzzles and it doing 48 piece puzzles on her own. It seems you can only put the pieces together properly if the words are upright. I felt the words should have been able to be attached anywhere to the connecting inner letter. They seem very sturdy and well made. I do think it is a good learning tool to utilize.
