PE(polyethylene) and PVC(polyvinyl chloride) are two common plastic materials with distinct properties and application scenarios. The advantages of PE include excellent environmental performance, recyclability, chemical resistance, high transparency, good toughness, and resistance to corrosion from water, acids, alkalis and other substances. It's a bit too tough for chair caning.The rattan seat on my chair had torn, so I wanted to replace it rather than throw the chair away. I found a few tutorials online and felt confident in replacing it. I ordered this without realizing it's plastic rattan. I didn't immediately think this would be an issue but after seeing how thick it is and how narrow the groove to set it in is, I thought there would be an issue - there was.I think this stuff would be great if you do not need to set it in a groove with spline, unless the groove is quite large. I think the groove in my chair is about 3/16th of an inch.Overall, i'm a bit bummed this didn't work out, but now I know. The quality of this rattan is actually quite nice, and I can see how the plastic would be much more durable.

I was worried because I’d ordered a plastic rattan item earlier for use outside, and it arrived looking cheap and terrible. This rattan roll is exactly what I need to replace the cheap looking rattan of my earlier item, and still have some extra to use for accessories for a more coordinated look. Very happy with this rattan. Happy caning projects!
