  • Two styles of hammering for rich, warm tone
  • A versatile crash that easily crosses musical styles

Product Description

The 14” HHX Thin Crash introduces a whole new design to the HHX line. Starting with a round of sparse hammering, followed by lathing, then denser HHX hammering over top, the result is a crash cymbal that is thinner, darker and faster than the HHX Studio Crashes it replaces. A smaller bell also ensures a faster attack and a crash cymbal that trends lighter in weight than most thin crashes. The versatility to easily cross musical styles has always been a hallmark of the HHX line, and the HHX 14” Thin Crash is no exception. If you’re seeking a small, thin Crash with shimmering dark tone – this is it!

I'm a fan of 14" crashes. As far as Sabian what I have to compare this to are an AAX Studio Crash and AAX Dark Crash. The HHX line always speaks to being darker in tone but this crash is brighter than I expected. In time it may become a bit darker from my experience. I can hear that happening with this one. I've been playing it a lot for over a month in a studio, very controlled in environment and cleanliness. I notice that brightness has faded a bit and it has regulated to a darker tone. I've only experienced that with cymbals getting older over time. I've used hundreds and own around 50-ish. So, "working in" a cymbal or whatever, is a phenomenon I always left as myth to arguers and theorists but I guess it holds some ground. It still doesn't seem too much darker than my 14" AAX Studio Crash and certainly not darker than my 14" AAX Dark Crash. The tone is quite different though and voices well with the Dark Crash. If I notice further change I will report that here. Overall a great sound and I'm happy to add this to my collection.
