The long end needs to go through a bulkhead and have a lock washer and nut. The long end of bulkhead fitting is normally 1" long. This is 7/8" so once mounted the hose will not tighten down. Also, the flange that rests against the other side of the bulkhead is almost nonexistent so it's not stable in the hole.
