I was tempted to get a truck liftgate pad, but I wanted a cleaner look. I am no handyman by any stretch of the imagination, and when I read the instructions for installing this mount, I knew it was out of my league...so I asked a friend to help me do it. My friend is a perfectionist (not a bad thing when drilling holes in your truck), and it took us a solid hour to install. To finish the job, you will need additional bolts, washers and nuts that are not included in the kit. These are not provided by Thule because the size of those depends on the vehicle. After getting the mount installed, it works phenomenally. I have a Trek Marlin 5, and after fitting the appropriate spacer (provided in the mount kit), the front fork attaches firmly and securely. When I took the bike out for the first time, the rear wheel bounced and shifted in the truck bed just a bit, so I attached bungee cables to the rear bike frame to stabilize it. Now it rides without moving whatsoever. If you have the patience and tools to install it, you won't be disappointed.

I am a MTB newbie (FOX ThirtyFour fork) but I believe only this new version works for a MTB with wider (110 or 115 mm) BOOST wheel hubs with thicker (15mm) diameter axle. You will need one set of the supplied plastic spacer inserts and use your existing threaded thru-axle - not the supplied quick release "skewer" which will be too short. I believe the older, still available or used, fork block will only work for road bikes (typically 9mm dia axle by 100mm wide fork drop-outs)? Just to be clear, this new version should work fine for road bikes. For now, i mounted the fork block to a bed-width long 2x6 and wrap front wheel in HF furniture blanket. Fits in covered 6.5 ft box; 5.5ft might be too tight - bike has to be closely in-line with the block & forks depending on angle of your headset. FWIW Insert a spacer (two business cards commonly suggested or disposable spacer from a bike shop) between the brake pads because squeezing brake lever can expand calipers and prevent re-insertion of the rotor - requiring pad removal to rectify. Enjoy the ride.
