Verso Arc Light for E-Readers
By LightWedge

When a traditionalist bucks their traditional book-toting ways in favor of the awesome convenience an e-reader offers, it’s cause for celebration. Hey, it’s a big deal for these folks. Cake, ice cream, and party hats are more than appropriate! And so is a small welcome gift—how about a light made specifically for e-readers? If they’re used to reading in low light with a book light, they’ll thank you because the frames on e-readers are often too narrow to accommodate a traditional book light without blocking the display.

The Verso Arc Light delivers bright, even light with interchangeable cuffs to fit your particular model of e-reader. The arcing neck glides up into “on” position and down for “off.” It’s rechargeable via the included USB to micro-USB cable, and gets up to 15 hours of light on a single charge.

The Arc Light is part of the Verso E-Reader Lights Collection

Squinting. Overhead lights on airplanes. Bad hotel-room lighting. Grumbly spouses who don't understand why we won't just close the book, shut off the light, and go to sleep. And, yes, aging. These are all major life challenges that our Verso line of e-reader lights can help with, and we offer three to unique versions to choose from.

The light was hardly used, but kept topped up. It completely failed after just over the year - certainly not 'frustration free'. I would have expected a longer period of use.

I bought this as a present for my 30yr old daughter to use with her kindle. She is very pleased with the light and the charging system but after about 9 months use the kindle size clip broke and she had to use it with the other clip supplied which does not really fit.The product appears to be a good product except for the clip, maybe we were just unlucky and had a bad clip.I contacted amazon who supplied a brand new lamp and provided the means to return the old one free of charge.Amazon's service was 5 star.

The main reason I've loved my Kindle is that I can carry it with me anywhere and read at any time. Sometimes, though, I find that I want to read in places with less than optimal light, such as dimly-lit restaurants. Given that the Kindle is not back-lit, it's like reading a book in the dark. So I decided to purchase the Verso light. My main criteria was that I wanted a rechargeable light (I despise buying batteries), and I also wanted one that was fairly intense. The Verso fits all my needs. It comes with two different sized clips (one for Kindle and one for other e-readers), which fits very snugly on the top, sides, or even bottom of the Kindle. So one can adjust it depending on where one likes to grip the Kindle. In bed, for example, I often lay on my side, so clipping the Verso to the side of the Kindle works well. The light intensity is just about right. I sometimes I like to read under the bedcovers on cold winter nights, and the light provided enough illumination to do so (it's pretty dark under there!).Charging the Verso is extremely easy; it comes with a charger cable that plugs a USB port (the cord can also be used to charge the Kindle). I haven't used the Verso for extended periods of time, so I cannot say how long a charge lasts, but I did fall asleep with it on once and it was still going strong after a few hours. The Verso doesn't fit in my Kindle case, but it is compact enough that I can carry it in my pants or even shirt pocket. The only debit is that the Verso appears a tad flimsy, especially the swing-out bar on which the lightbulb is located. I have been a bit worried about the arm breaking off (the arm has to be extended fully for the light to go on), although after using it for about a month during which time I rolled over on it at least once in my sleep, it seems to be holding just fine. I'm quite satisfied with this light and its features.

I would like this light if it worked. There seems to be either a design defect or a manufacturing defect. The light works until I try to slide it on to my Kindle 2. It fits very snugly (which is good) but the pressure from the clip causes the housing to flex and disconnect the internal battery and the light shuts off. It will work if it is plugged in but that defeats the purpose of a reading light. It have had 2 of these and they both had this problem which is why I think there is either a design or manufacturing defect. One of them would sometimes work on my Kindle 3, which has a thinner case, but you had to adjust it until it was in just the right spot. Any slight movement and the light would shut off. I had to return both lights. It's unfortunate because I liked the light. It is extremely light weight, rechargeable and provides adequate light. There is light falloff at the bottom of the screen but it is bright enough to read.

Third Pass: Just don't buy one. I'm sorry to say.My third Verso has now crapped out - it's just not worth it.First Pass: I love my Kindle almost as much as I love reading. The Verso was the second light I purchased for the Kindle (we will not count the Verso I returned to Amazon). It's rechargeable which is terrific. It is bright. It is small and fits the Kindle well. Recharging the Verso is a bit tricky, the make and the female seem like divorced man and wife trying to get back together after a long period of separation. There is no feeling of a good connection. The red light that shows you it is connected does not necessarily reveal it is, indeed, recharging. After a while you think "what's not happening here" and move the male around a bit and, later, you see the green light noting it is fully charged and ready for use.I'd still choose the Verso but, I'm looking for something better all the time. Just keep your eye on the red/green light which is the size of this period. Ok, maybe a bit bigger.Second Pass: Well, here we are after a few months of using the Verson and now, of course, it won't recharge as there is no contact between the cord from the USB and the Verso no matter how I jiggle the male it fails to contact the female. Most disconcerting is the guarantee from Amazon has expired. My choice now is to order a new Verson, read without sufficient light or curse Verso and Amazon. The latter may make me feel better, the former makes AMZ richer and the mid choice makes my opthamologist richer - whom should I bless with my dollars. This is ridiculous in any case.I withdraw my recommendation. Simply put, the best has yet to appear.....unfortunately. Amazon has it set up so a disgruntled customer can't unload on a real employee but, via this method. Crap. Crap. Crap.
