It’s been ten days since I replace my old catalytic converter for this one. I put my 2004 Subaru Forester up on ramps to get more space to work with. Fit nice and snug! The check engine light came on when I initially started my car to back it off the ramps. The next morning I started my car to leave for work, and no check engine light came on. So, I’m in the clear for now!I used a clamp and pipe adapter to secure the new converter. I got them both at autozone for under $20. If you need to go this route be very, very careful choosing the right size pipe adapter to fit the converter. I went this rout instead of bolting the post converter (downstream) flange because the post converter end of my old catty was welded on for some reaosn, so I was forced to cut it off. The pre-converter flange I bolted on normally with a little struggle tightening the new flange. Definitely buy the accompanying gaskets too!All in all, I’m thankful for the cheap price since other catalytic converters that would fit my car went for $600 or more. Highly recommend Amazon for catalytic converters and other car parts alike!

I very rarely write reviews, but since this was such an important purchase, I figured it deserved it. My 2003 Subaru Forester had the Check Engine Light (CEL) on for 2 years, and it was throwing a P042 code. Not wanting to spend $1,100 on an OEM catalytic converter, I was still hesitant to spend a couple hundred dollars on one and pay to have a mechanic install it unless I knew it would fix the problem. The mechanic had told me that non-OEM cats for Subarus tended to not keep the CEL off. Finally I couldn't stand it any longer, and I bought a Walker 54573 from Amazon. I also bought parts 31310 and 31614 that it said were needed (I bought two other parts as well, but they ended up not being necessary). 3.5 weeks ago I took it to the mechanic, and it took them 1.5-2 hours to replace the catalytic converter with the one I provided. They didn't replace any of the O2 sensors, so it was going to be pretty clear right away whether this cat worked.CEL was off when I picked it up, which wasn't surprising since the last few times I had disconnected the battery, it had taken about 70 miles until the light came back on. But then I realized that they hadn't disconnected the battery when changing it, since my clock and radio stations were still set. So here I am, 3.5 weeks later having driven 537 miles, and the CEL has not come back on.A few last notes. I had been averaging 17-18.5 MPG before getting the cat changed. The last time I filled up, it was 20 MPG with no change in driving habits. I'll see if it continues. And the first few times that I first started up the car after the new cat was installed, along with several times in the morning since then, it seemed like there was an inordinate amount of exhaust being admitted. But then again, it's been unusually cold, so it could just be that. But I am extremely pleased with how well it has done.6/14/18 update -- still no problems, and averaging 19-22 MPG. CEL has still not come on.

This directly fit my 2001 Subaru Forester, no problems. We are the lucky few who's car's CATs don't cost very much. I suggest you also purchase the two O2 sensors with this because you will absolutely need them (they average $50 a piece), why? Because like the exhaust bolts they may have welded themselves to the pipe and why take a chance you still pull a code after you get everything back together. I brought all of my parts down to Bucky's, got a quote for $150 for the install and sat there for about an hour while they installed it. You may pay $200 for the install if they can't get the old bolts off either as they may have to cut and weld on a new flange. Always order your parts from amazon folks and avoid the markup at the repair shop and at the parts store. This cat was 2x the price at Autozone.I have never owned a Subaru. This car (no dents, interior just needed cleaning, wouldn't pass emissions and had very little power) was actually given to me by a lady who didn't want to deal with it because her mechanic told her it was gonna be $2400 to fix it. So instead she bought a new car. Two weeks later after researching vids on Utube here is what needed fixing (I did everything myself except CAT install);1. Replaced knock sensor. (pulled a code regarding this with my trusty Harbor Freight scan tool.) Super easy and only $10 on amazon.2. Changed spark plugs and wires. (It still puttered a bit after new CATs) She runs quieter than a mouse on cotton now.3. Changed air filter. It was caked.4. Sprayed a whole can of sensor safe intake cleaner down the carb. This did a great deal too.5. Lastly, I changed the oil, inspected and topped off the tranny fluid plus changed the differential fluid. It seemed to me that the car at 255,000 miles had not been serviced properly and the nice lady who gave it to me just drove it and didn't do the maintenance on it. Eventually she got overwhelmed with all of the very easy to fix problems (except the CAT which were it not for rusted bolts would be a breeze too) that she gave up on it. Deal of the century my friends. This don't happen often. In the end, for about $700 this Subaru is back to normal, and it could come at a better time. My son is 17 and I was wondering where I was gonna get the cash to get him a safe car. Woo Hoo! I wish I could have had a mint Subaru Forester for my first vehicle. Love, Peace & Hair Grease!

perfect flange to flange fit but good luck with the factory heat shields, no mounting tabs and the overall shape is not conducive either. build quality howerver seems very good.My P0420 cel has been out since installing, I suspect the reason for the failure of the original cat was my failure to change the spark plugs. Checking the plugs was suggested by a one time cel of misfire....080 gap on more than one plug...100,000 miles. Having said that, the car ran well, smooth and good power/economy.
