In trying to reduce what I thought was a staple on the butt end of the handle, I discovered it was actually part of the shaft of the blade that goes all the way through. It should be pretty robust as the shaft curves around and back into the handle at the butt end. That means pulling with the tool will essentially tighten the shaft into the handle.
