It is almost same as Dura-Ace chain, the package, the weight etc. I think it is genuine. Quality wise I can't tell a difference.

I'm no expert but this chain looks legit. The packaging, the links, and the chain itself all look real but because it's sold by some random seller, it's really hard to know if it's counterfeit or not. Other reviewers claim it's real while some say it's not. Normally I would pay little attention to this but $64 isn't nothing and I certainly don't want a cheap chain on my MTB that will break while out on the trail.Overall, it looks and feels like the real thing. For now, it's a spare and if and when I do use it, I'll be sure to report back if my opinions change.

This is basically the same as any other HG901 chain, but it seems to be a package set that is sold in Japan, given the writing is all in Japanese and I haven't seen these kits in local bike shops in the US. The quick link and microfiber towel are not something I'd let sway me into this versus the chain only, but if it's price competitive, I'd go for this set.

I can confirm this is a genuine Shimano chain. This is exactly how the new packaging looks for HG901 chains, and there are two versions offered (with or without a quick link). For some reason this kit comes with the non quick link version, but then adds spare quick links, which raises the price. A new chain with quick link and a spare quick link can be had for cheaper than this bundle. This bundle also comes with a microfiber towel, but for all intensive purposes, doesn't really add anything of value. If you're looking for a genuine chain in a sea of counterfeits, then this is a good option.

Look, let’s be realistic; there are more counterfeit Shimano products than real Shimano products out there. And not at the bottom-end products; obviously the counterfeits are going to be Dura-Ace and XTR top-line componentry. Look at the product description; it never says Shimano anywhere. Look at the brand (Ge@r), again not Shimano. The price; definitely Shimano-level. And I will be honest here, while my tri-bike has Dura-Ace group, I bought it used and I use 105-level chains and replace these annually even if stretch tells me I can put it off. This last one, I splurged and used an Ultegra. But hey, the magic of Vine gives me the opportunity to look at a Dura-Ace level; I will take it.This passes some of the “bigger” counterfeit tests. First, the quick-links are packaged separately in a separate box; just like Shimano does it (different part number and packaging for the chain v. the quick-links). The pins are hollow; again the counterfeits often don’t have hollow pins. I weighed mine right at 254-grams in the plastic; Shimano says 246-grams but within a couple of percent for manufacturing tolerances and I will grant that this is within 3%. The print/stamp on the chain links looks good? Please note that these chains are directional, so make sure you install correctly. The check mark on the box (116L or 138L); this is “printed” vs. hand-checked and is black vs. blue => this test indicates not Shimano? For now, I put this aside until I maintain my tri-bike in the spring for the new season. It isn’t likely coming out for a bit. Winter is fat bike season…

I get great life out of these chains. I am quite diligent about cleaning the drivetrain and this is key to long lasting performance. I don't skimp on drivetrains because whenever I replace them it feels like a brand new bike again. The quick link makes it easy to do a proper chain cleaning. It takes a few times to break it in for tool free removal but after that you will only clean your chain by taking it off.Take care of your chain and it will take care of you.

Gonna be a good upgrade from the Ultegra 701 series I have now. I will be replacing one of my chains soon and waxing this chain before putting it on (best to clean and wax a new chain).Per Shimano, it is significantly smoother, quieter, and more durable compared to lower-tier Shimano chains like those found on Ultegra or XT groupsets. From what friends have told me is that it uses a lighter alloy and is more resistant to stretch. Only time, and a couple thousand miles will tell.I like that it comes with two master links as on link at the bike shop can run $10. I do not like to go on multi day rides without a good master link.So why the 4 instead of 5 stars? The price. Bought seperately, Amazon carries this chain and seperate 2-pack master links for less. The combo package should be 15-20% less than if bought separately IMHO. 5 stars as one of the best on the market, but deduct 1 star for price.
