This plug is easy to install with no modifications on a Craftsman T240.

Unfortunately, despite what should be a perfect fit, this ( on my Craftsman at least ) needed ( and needs ) several modifications straight out the box ( relocated main bolt, added four HD zip ties in an attempt to seal the edges flush ) and the force from inside the deck still proved too strong. After about 20 minutes it had pulled away from the deck on the top side and then broke ALL four zips. Need to add some riveting and possibly a rubber strip along the top and bolt it down through the zip holes. Royal PITA.Oh, and what didn't cover the mower was all over ME

Doesn’t say that it’s fits the xt1 lt 42, but it has the same opening apparently as the lt46. There are no directions, but you bolt the Rod to the plug with the rod pointing up … it gets inserted into the hole on the front roller bracket… then you move the entire plug as far forward as you can and insert the back tab behind the deck wall and move back so the tab fully engages … at the same time it will align with a bolt on the top of the deck … there is a hole in the plastic plug that this bolt goes thru … don’t remove the bolt and nut … it fits better with the nut there … just slide the hole onto the bolt sticking up. You probably don’t need a nut to secure it … it is fairly tight just hanging on the bolt … I added a wing nut just to be sure it stays in place. It is plastic, so I don’t know the durability.
