I've used big covered plastic litterboxes in my basement for years. One was rectangular, another was triangular and fits in a corner. I keep a litter genie between the two basement litterboxes and had used the mediocre rounded plastic scoop that hung on the side of the litter genie, because there was no decent way to hang a better scoop anyplace. The bottoms of the plastic litterboxes have scratched over time, probably because the litter genie scoop has a lousy shape, and the scratches pick up color from the cat litter. I've recently switched to a walnut shell based litter, which leaves dark brown stains in the corners of the litterboxes. I like that particular cat litter a lot, but can't tell when the litterboxes are clean when I sanitize them every week. I have probably damaged the plastic further with all the scrubbing and harsh chemicals, leading to worse stains.Enter these metal litterboxes. They're life changing! They have a smaller footprint, but they aren't small, and they come with fantastic scoops that clip onto the high sides of the litterboxes themselves. The square shape of these scoops works so well. No more scratching up the corners with an annoying round scoop! Not that the metal is easy to scratch. And I don't think it'll stain like the plastic. If you've got cats who've eaten from plastic food bowls, you probably know how bacteria hides in the plastic and causes acne on kitty chins, so veterinarians recommend switching to metal or ceramic food bowls. I don't even want to think about the bacteria lurking in the plastic litterboxes I was using, but these should be so much more sanitary. Basically, everything about these litterboxes is such an improvement for me and my cats.

It is recommended to have litter boxes one for each cat plus one. If you have just one cat it is sometimes enough to have just one litter box if you are fast enough to clean it. Cats prefer to have clean litter boxes to do their business. I have a multiple cats household so I am trying to have this "+1" rule (not there yet). Before I used exclusively plastic high walls boxes. And after trying recently metal litter box, I've seen how they are much more superior to their plastic counterparts.I am gradually replacing my plastic litter boxes with metal ones. And I was glad to find the option with 2 metal litter boxes from MIXJOY that also are in XL size. These litterboxes are of excellent quality, easy to clean (wet litter will not stick to the surface that you need to scrape it, but will glide effortlessly), leak proof because of special joint connection that prevents it, they are not easily scratched and damaged and will last for very long time. The platform at the entrance helps litter to stay in box.My old litter boxes will leak through the joint between top and bottom if spray will hit there, or the cat of large size will easily spray over the entrance edge. I was replacing old plastic boxes quite often because they become badly scratched fast - damaged surface can harbor bad bacteria and ordor, and maintenance will not completely solve this. All these problems are eliminated with these metal boxes. They are premium quality and premium price, but they are still cheaper if to buy the set of two, than two boxes separately. And they will serve you for very very long time. They came with untiskid stickers to put at the bottom and litter scooper (two complete sets). And these litterboxes were packed very carefully and diligently in a sturdy cardboard box with four plastic corners to protect from damage during shipping.I was in the process of replacing old plastic boxes with these ones, when cats already have started to use them without waiting for me to put them at their usual place (and they had other boxes available and clean). I am glad they like it. And I just want to repeat myself - they are so easy to clean!Easy 5 stars!

My son recently got some litter boxes similar to these, and some of the many boxes in my house were a bit on the small side, so checking these out was a no-brainer. My initial impression is that these will be a great, if slightly expensive, addition for anyone needing bigger boxes or who have a lot of cats.At any given time I might have from two to four rescue cats, all with different opinions about where and how to use litter boxes. So I have three very large, 100+ quart storage containers with cutouts for access, plus several full-sized steam table pans (about 12.75" x 20.74" x 6.00") with litter. The steam table pans have been great just to have something to put whereever a new, picky cat decides they want to use it, but the sides aren't tall enough to keep litter inside for the more aggressive litter throwers. These litter boxes feel a lot like slightly bigger versions of those steam table pans, but the metal is not as thick. This makes them a little lighter weight and easier to handle, but they will dent easily if mishandled, dropped, or kicked, so I'd be careful shoving them around with a foot. They are the same height as the steam pans, but have a plastic shroud that does a good job of keeping litter in for all but the most aggressive litter throwers. There's a small step at the access with slots that may catch some litter left over on paws as they step out, but I would not rely on that - a litter mat is still probably a good idea, and you can probably move the mat so more of it is where the cat comes out of the litter box, since there should not be as much getting sprayed out of the sides and back. The plastic shroud isn't super thick, but seems well-molded and should be more than durable enough, if not abused. The included scoop is okay as far as scoops go, but does have a catch on it to rest on whatever part of the top of the shroud is convenient for you. The included non-slip pads for the four corners of the litter pan is a nice touch, but may not do muhc unless the litter box is sitting directly on the floor. My guess is the weight of the litter inside will be enough to keep it place in most cases. At full price, I'd call these a little spendy. But with the 30% off coupon currently available for this, it's a pretty great deal, bringing the cost down to about what you'd pay for a couple of steam table trays, but giving you larger pans, high-sided shrouds, and litter scoops in the deal. I'll definitely be using these instead of those old steam table pans for day to day use... but keeping those around anyway, for the next time the Cat Distribution System decides to favor us with more feline company.
