  • TEMT6000 Ambient Light Sensor Breakout

Basic breakout board for the TEMT6000 Ambient Light Sensor. Only what you need, nothing you don’t. Sensor acts like a transistor - the greater the incoming light, the higher the analog voltage on the signal pin.

I bought this hoping it would be a much higher quality sensor than the one I bought. Does it work? Yup, but it's got a very inherent flaw. Its light sensing curve is very linear, and it is only analog output, so precision doesn't exist. Measuring lux levels is possible, but it only detects from 0 to 1000 lux. This means that even a headlight of a car will cause it to go haywire if it gets too close. In my testing, room lighting was fine, but as soon as I put a bright LED flashlight up to it, it freaked out. Goes from 100 lumens to 30, and back, but only with BRIGHT light. In my case, I am using it to test light often brighter than 1000 lumens, so it doesn't work for me. Too bad, because it's nice and small. I'm going to try the BH1750FVI next, because it is I2C based, and is supposed to detect from 0 to 100,000 lux. Also, keep in mind that it does NOT include header pins, so you will need some to attach it to a breadboard or PCB.
