I got this rack to replace a Curt tray style rack whos center arm stopped working and would not hold the bike in place (side note: if you are going to get a tray style rack, spend more and get one where the securing arm goes over the tire, not the center of the frame). After few months of difficulty with my tray rack it wouldn't hold my bike over bumps, and also chipped a spot in the finish. I decided to switch to a hanging rack. looked at options and decided to get a 4 bike one to make loading easier. The cradle piece that hold the frame is usually the only difference in any hanging style bike rack. The cradle is what impressed me with this model. The one closest to the seat offers two (2) points of fastening on the top tube and seat stays. The one that is farther down the top has multiple points of attachment also to give you options. This also works well with my wife's step through frame (As long as have a bar adapter). One problem that is noticeable is the lack of a strap to secure the front wheels, so they don't turn and spin. This can be easily remedied on Amazon. The assembly it though as the this thing is heavy to manipulate into position for screws and such, but the directions are kind of straight forward. Once you get this into place, it would be better if you have a stabilizer for the hitch to keep the rack from tilting side to side (once again, look on Amazon). After instillation I took it for a test drive with both our bikes on it, about 50 miles (errands). Worked great, rode smooth, and the security feature kept the safe from pirates. Now according to some other reviews, the cradles on this spin to accommodate different types of bikes. They do not, so don't make them. The reflectors on the end are a nice touch. It tilts out of the way easily to lift hatchback. Stows easily and compact (much less than last rack). All in all, good rack!

Bought this for the ability to transport more than two bikes and to use on multiple vehicles with 2 inch hitch. It's working well so far but an issue I'm having is finding an affordable way of locking the carrier to my vehicle. Unfortunately, Bell does not offer a solution as far as I can see and since the bolt is threaded, you may have an issue finding something. Third party solutions I've seen so far will cost almost as much as the carrier itself. If securing your bikes and carrier to your vehicle are important, you may want to look at a manufacturer that provides the option to lock the carrier to your hitch.

This is indeed a nice Heavy Duty Bike Carrier w/2 minor quirks. I read a lot of reviews that said there was too much "play" (wobbly movement) with it when Bikes were being transported. I found that to be the case, & came up w/2 solutions that may Help Someone & it makes the Bike Carrier Rock Solid-No sway/play at all. Ck out the 2 photos provided & this explanation will make more sense. In the 1st photo I used the flat washer provided, but did away with the thin "lock type" washer they provided, & used a regular lock washer I had as well as adding another flat washer of mine & "sandwiched" the lock washer I had between the 2 flat washers & tightened the Bolt down TIGHT. This will prevent it from wiggling loose as many had mentioned-the lock washer they provided is not sufficient. Even with this being done there is still movement in the Carrier & another idea shown in 2nd photo is I took a piece of copper Water Pipe 5/8" outside diameter w/1/2" inside diameter cut to 1" length & slid it on the other end of the bolt that has the hole in it for either a Lock or Spring Pin whichever You prefer. The hole is large enough to accommodate a good size Lock, & the 1" slip on pipe I mentioned will go all the way in the Hitch Hole & bottom out on the Bike Hitch itself (filling up the hole of the Vehicles Hitch on the lock end of the bolt since it is a lot larger than the Bolt from Bell Products on the left hand side of the Hitch) & still leave room for a lock to be used-the Pin/Bolt that holds the Carrier to the Hitch is smaller on the end where the hole is for the Lock/Pin. I found out that even with the bolt tightened down You will still have some movement from the Bikes swaying due to the big hole being on the Lock/Spring Pin end of it. The 1" Length Water Pipe mentioned will remedy this. When You go to take the the Bike Carrier out of the Hitch, remove Your Lock or Spring Pin, slide off Your 1" Pipe Remove Your Bolt & pull Your Carrier out of Hitch. All this "effort" on Your part will make it a solid way to transport Your Bikes that could have been avoided if Bell Products would supply You with 2 flat washers instead of 1 as well as a regular lock instead of what they do currently, & supplying You with a 1" Length "Shim" pipe piece as well. I was hesitant about writing this review as Amazon for whatever reason avoided publishing some of My reviews in the past & I was honestly rating the other products/shipping of the products as to be a Help for Someone else. If You're only going to publish the "good ones" that seems lop-sided to Me. I'm in Hopes this review will be published & Help Someone, as there are a couple of flaws/adjustments that Bell should address with this Bike Rack to make it more "user friendly" & with these will make it a solid unit. I tried putting three standard bikes on this rack. Only one fit properly. The tie down system on this is counterintuitive. But really I think for it to work you need to buy their add on for 'non straight' bike frames. Who has a straight bike frame anymore? Overall poor product.

Bought this because of it's good reviews. In 1995 this would have been a great bike rack. If you have a traditional adult size frame with straight across frame members it's fine. However, if you have a kids bike or any mountain bike with angled frames, it MAY NOT WORK. AT ALL. I read the instructions and tried every option to no avail with 2 of our 3 bikes. The one that "fit" was only mounted by putting one of the frame members above the mount and then using the rubber strap to hold the other side of the frame, putting half of the bike's weight on the strap. If the strap broke or came off, the bike would swing down and hit the road. It also caused a number of deep scratches due to the frame contacting a sharp screw trying to mount the bike. Make sure your bike frame is a traditional straight bar from handlebar to seat before you consider this bike rack. Otherwise it is a well built, sturdy product. Just didn't work for any bike we own or any I see in bicycle shops today.
