I used this for the lid of a saw till box I made for transporting hand saws securely. Worked great. Very heavy duty chain.

These chains prevent the heavy oak lid on a chest from over extending and damaging the hinges and soft closures.

I refinished 100+ year old desk for one of my grandchildren, and when I got the desk the drop-down lid was off and the supports were missing. The chains and brackets turned out to be a perfect fix. It gives it needed support when open so not to over extend its hinges.Easy to install.

Great piece of hardware and great value. The only downside is that it may be too heavy duty. This thing is a beast. While I can't attest to the material its made (brass or brass plated,) I can attest to the strength and quality. It is much larger and heavier than expected but it works for what I needed for this play oven I built. I didnt trust the hinges alone, but with this chain, I feel confident it will stand to the test. Absolutely no problem with the screws but here's a tip though. Brass screws are not the hardest, and these may be a #10 screw, so I predrilled for the screwholes. For added strength, I used a hardwood, poplar for the door and also used a bit of wood glue. The screws went in perfectly. If this fails it will be because the wood did first. I'll definitely buy this again.

Wow these are EXACTLY what I wanted for my latest project. I refinish antique and vintage furniture. Currently I'm working on an antique secretary desk. This desk is special and it is to be highlighted on numerous blogs coming out from my product rep. It's a big deal for me. With all pieces comes trials and tribulations, but this one needs to be just right. Normally, 2 wooden bars slide out under each side of the flip lid on this desk to support the lid as a writing area but they were rubbing in such a way that I felt that over time, my paint wouldn't hold up in those areas even with a top coat. So I stepped back and thought about it. I needed support for functionality but beauty too. This desk is over the top Glam with lots and lots of brass metal and brass paint detailing. These were the perfect addition. Easy to install and great quality. They are very sturdy and flat out pretty. They are thick and will definitely stand the test of time. One of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. The support the lid weight and create a space for every day use without the worry of wearing down

This is a tough review for me to write because this product is way too large for my purpose. It would probably work well with an actual transom but I have a drop-down door to a tea service cabinet which needs something smaller and more refined than this chain. It passed the "no magnetic response" test, except for the end pieces to which the chain is attached. So the claim of "solid brass" is apparently correct for the chain but not for the pieces that fasten to the transom and window sill.I'm giving this four stars because it seems unfair to mark it down when it is at least partly my mistake for assuming this is smaller than it is. I realize now that ordering this stuff on the Internet without seeing it and understanding its actual dimensions is way too risky for a small dollar item (not worth the postage cost to send back). What is the actual size of "2 mm" (another item) anyway? Is that the thickness of the metal or the width of the link, for example?
