Segmented like this is the only type I can use. Installed fine with 15" clearance above.Heater is only 5 yr old but needed an impact driver and spray to get the old one out.Even a 3 ft breaker bar not enough. Kept the Ryobi battery impact driver going for maybe 45 seconds - but it finally gave way and all good.

I purchased this anode rod to replace the one that got eroded in my hot water tank (hybrid ,heat pump). I have a geospring and yes, there was a sensor attached to the end of my old and old rod. However, this one does not have a sensor that I can plug that connection to, but it still works. And the price point is fantastic right around $17. And, don't worry about thinking that this anode rod is going to break where it connects to the main body. It won't. It is a solid connection.

This product makes installation easy when you have limited space above the water heater to slide a standard 48" long solid replacement anode rod into the tank. Removal of the old rod is the challenge. They are usually too long to get out straight up from the top of the tank so you just have to bend it every foot or so. Also getting the old mounting nut to break loose after years of corrosion and no use of teflon tap by the manufacturer can be very difficult. You need a hi-torque impact gun or a 1/2" drive ratchet and a long (I used approx 50") cheater bar to generate enough torque to break the nut loose. I bought a 3/4" NPT tap to clean up the threads on the tank port in case I damaged them on removal and used lots of teflon tape on the new rod nut.
