My middle school son has an extraordinarily long neck, so instead of looking like a tootsie pop stick with a helmet on, this provides some proportion & safety so he doesn't have his neck snapped. It does that job well & it bolted on ok (had to put an extra washer in between the mounting hardware or else it didn't snug up tight & was loose). On the downside, his dexterity, vision, and speed suffer as a result, but he plays the offensive & defensive lines, so these factors are not significant.However, after receiving this piece of plastic with a tiny bit of hard foam on it, I wondered, "wow this is the most expensive small hunk of plastic I've ever seen." The value on this isn't great, but choices are few & the kid likes it.
