This isn't a cluebox in the sense of there being several hints etched upon the various parts of the exterior. Instead, this is more of a "manipulation puzzle", where you just have to fiddle with the few moving parts until it just opens (and, even then, you can kinda get close to the right configuration and then it kinda comes open most of the way, but feels like it's caught on something until you wiggle some other parts. The "record" is just a jigsaw puzzle which plays no part in the get-the-box-open puzzle. This is probably the fourth or fifth wooden puzzle box that I've purchased, and this one is the most underwhelming.

I ordered this puzzle box for my son. Gifts at Christmas or his birthday often include some kind of gift card so I am always looking for something fun to put them in versus just an envelope. He also really likes puzzles so anytime I see some kind of puzzle box I tend to grab it up. This is a decently made laser cut puzzle that is a little different than others I have seen, since it looks like a tiny record player. It also combines jigsaw puzzle pieces into the box on top of then having to decode how to open it. I gave it a try and without aid of the instructions was able to get the box open in about 10 mins. There was one last part of the locking mechanism that took up about half of the that time. I know my son will solve it quicker than I but he will enjoy the process and with any luck puzzle him at least a little bit.

This is a fun little set that is also challenging. The record player vintage feel also makes it a nice conversation starter. It was fun to put together.

I love these little 3D boxes, but I was a little disappointed that this one comes already put together. I was able to forgive that because it's so cute! I really didn't even understand that this was a puzzle in the sense that you have to be able to put the record together and move it just so in order to make it open, thereby reaching the inner "safe". It's trickier than I expected. I usually attempt these without using the directions first because I'm lazy and full of hubris. This one turned out to be different, so I'd say you'd want to give it to a higher IQ individual, if you're not going to reveal the secret to them immediately. It's not as easy as just putting the record puzzle together. There are other moving parts, like choosing between 33, 45, and 78 speed for the record.Overall, good quality, fun puzzle, and definite value for the money because it's tricky. And who doesn't love a retro aesthetic vibe?

The puzzle is well made, the individual pieces are free of splinters, the pieces are solidly assembled, and the unvarnished wood has a pleasant aroma. The puzzle is simpler than most, but the record player design is novel, and it makes a great gift box.

I ordered this thinking I would be building the entire puzzle box, so I was a little disappointed to find out I would only be assembling the record which was pretty much a standard wooden jigsaw puzzle. I also would have liked printed instructions for operation rather than having to scan a QR code to learn how to make it work. It would have been much easier to use if I hadn't had to go to my phone for the instructions. All in all it seems to be a quality product, I just think it would have been a lot more fun if I had had the opportunity to build it.
