I love these things, love love love them - clearly evident from the scads of excelsior that cover my living room carpet. Obsession is a good word to describe my affinity for these remarkable pieces of precision craftsmanship that can shave off paper thin curls off a chunk of wood to a perfectly smooth, flat surface - no sanding needed. LOVE!

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the plane iron and plane. This is by no means a high quality Kanna plane of which I am no expert. This is in fact the only Kanna style plane I have purchased though I have many other western style planes. Out of the box the plane iron is razor sharp and after working with the plane on a bench project I was surprised how it retained its edge and was generally able to cut through soft and hard wood.Overall for an inexpensive plane it is worth the money that I spent and is a welcome addition to my collection.

Being this my third Senkichi kanna I was pretty sure it would be a great plane, the other two were. Nontheless, the body came crooked and there is no work that could be done to fix it 👎 you can notice they carve the mouth with a machine and the person didnt operate it well

Ok, so this plane is alright, better than the tiny finger plane I was using before? Not entirely. This plane is off centered in the fit up, by a slight angle and depth discrepancy; a corner dips lower than the adjacent side. The plane blade is sharpened on both sides -not entirely expected, which Im not sure is important for function?Take away is the extra finger room for pulling the plane, despite the amount of fiddling to set the blade to the right depth. And filing a small amount to help reduce the tightest fit a blade; had to use a channel lock to help ease the blade out gently. That said, this does terribly on soft wood with knots, but can imagine it performs better on hardwood. Just an amateurs opinion

For its price and simple design it works very well.
