I upgraded this customers JD D130 with the manual (non electric PTO) 42in deck that originally had the older style 2 brake disengage levers/rods and replaced the shorter rod with the spring and it made it so much easier to engage the blades while still pulling the new brake pad far enough away from the spindle sheeve/pulley. Wish they had a spring upgrade for the longer rod as well.TIP1: have the blade engagement arm (with the idler pulley) off , then attach the spring before reassembly of the arm to the deck.TIP2: only use compressed air to clean the top of the mower deck - using water on top will rust the deck components much faster and you'll be calling me for a deck rebuild sooner.
