I had a true cold air intake from an aftermarket group focusing on the Kia Soul. i wondered originally about the size of their filter and such, if it would allow enough air to go in. I was told it was enough, and testing had been done, however in the real world, it seems this is not the case.Pros:I drove around my normal way with an average MPG of 26 with the old intakeWith the K&N intake, it was an extremely hot day, drove around traffic and through a crowded airport and through the city of San Francisco (all horrible on gas), and i ended up with an easy 27.5 with my peak regular non traffic local and freeway at nearly 30 MPG (75 - 80 MPH).some people say intake is an intake, and what you get doesn't matter, from my experience, it does matter. K&N is clearly superior when it comes to millage, but it is also much more responsive. it is not humanly possible to really feel the HP difference of any intake by itself really, so what you really are looking for in a good intake in a daily driver is MPG,Responsiveness, and Sound. the K&N is superior in every way.Cons:Instructions were not as clear as they could have been, and all the screws and nuts came in a single bag mixed together, and once u do determine what's what, the step by step instructions don't refer you to which nut or screw to use. (tip: pay very close attention to the diagram in the front)The nilon nuts are difficult to work with, especially the one used to attatch the cold air funnel to the heat shield, i went to ace hardware and bought a wingnut, made it much easier as it is tough to fit pliars into the spot to tighten it downPrice, this intake was 270 dollars, the inferior true cold air intake was only 200 dollars, however in my old car (mazda 3) i got a short ram intake (like this K&N one which is not a true CAI) that was just as good (but didn't fit as snuggly) for only 170 dollars from an performance aftermarket company focusing only on mazdas. i feel like they could have dropped the price of this to 200 - 225 range, i guess you pay for the peace of mind and security of knowing for sure the first time, that you have a good product. The good thing is, once everything is installed, it fits the car very well, it is very snug, no rattles or any room for movement, but just a tiny bit of flex (similar to stock airbox) easy to remove, clean or replace filter, and works very well. once it is installed there is no performance related cons.
