I've become more interested in family history in recent years, so this has been great to help organize things. I got this for my whole family to kind of help put things together. It comes with good instructions and tips on how to go about, which I found really helpful. I kind makes the process more fun for everyone involved.This is a good kit if you're looking to find out more about your family history but aren't exactly sure where to start or what the right questions might be.

The cards come in a tight-fitting durable storage box. The cards are made of stiffened card stock with a light laminate, like poker cards. There are 4 cards providing basic information: About, Instructions, Tips for Interviewing, and Recording. I scanned the QR codes for interviewing and recording and they provide extensive details. As a professional interviewer, I can say these tips are on the mark, helpful and worth reading. A random scan of the questions tells me these are a complete set of open-ended questions that will stimulate good conversation. The questions are good, driving at specific events, actions or perspectives. But they may not trigger a response on how the person felt. See TIPS. This kit provides all the information you need to conduct a successful interview.TIPS: Many questions can be followed up with a Why question. If you don’t get an emotional reaction to a question, you can follow up with questions like: How did you feel when that happened? How did that person make you feel? How did [so and so] feel when you did that?

Unlike most sets of cards, this is not a game but a set of sample questions for interviewing someone about their life. It's broken down into three broad categories - Early Life, Midlife, and finally Later Life and Reflections. The three categories don't have identical numbers of cards, but they're pretty close. Depending on which cards you include, you could interview a subject of almost any age, but the full set is clearly intended for someone in later life. There's a mix of very personal questions "What was one of the most difficult parts of your marriage [early in the marriage]?" or "What is a dream you've let go of?" and more light hearted ones like "What is your super power?" or "What was in style when you were in school?" A few introductory instruction cards tie them all together, and the shipping box doubles as a nice storage case. Again, it's not really a game at all, but if you have an older friend or relative who you'd like to get to know better and maybe spark a neat conversation with then it could still be quite fun.
