Difficult to tell if it is OEM although it isn't an exact match to my old one (It doesn't have cutouts where the other one did, for battery hold down spring, but as I don't use it anyways, it doesn't matter) Knowing MTD it is probably a genuine replacement in a "generic" style (and painted black as they usually do.) Either way it fits perfectly and does the job it needs to do!

I was impressed that this battery box is an exact fit to the old rusted box I replaced. It’s well worth the money and and quality material.

It worked the way it should and holds the battery for my lawnmower perfectly. Good price too

Considered bending up a battery box. Price is cheap enough to buy one instead. Make sure you spray the inside bottom with truck bed spray.

I consider this hazardous. Not the correct fit for my MTD, though it’s advertised as compatible. The tray is too shallow causing the battery terminals to touch the seat bottom causing a short or even a fire.

I had installed a motorcycle battery in my mower trying to save money. Worked fine for a year. Then I started to have to charge it every now and then. One day I had to jump start the mower. I cut the grass and was about to put the charger on it when the thought hit me that I have charged the battery a couple of times maybe I should check the fluid level. Took the caps off and could see plates in some of the cells. I put some water in the battery then smelled a little sulfur smell. Must be something about that smell because it made me look at the whole picture in front of me again. The battery tray had dropped down on the drive pulley causing the tray to have a half moon cutout and the battery to have three cells leaking acid on the pulley. Some time during this little event the nut on the drive pulley unscrewed and was not to be found. Of course the belt looked like the bulldog had chewed it. It seems the tray just hangs over the pulley and using a under size battery allowed the sides to come together dropping the tray and battery. Now I have a new battery that fits the new tray correctly and a new belt and new pully nut on my newly painted drive pulley. So much for saving money.
