This is a good quality compass that is accurate for most situations. It has a liquid filled compartment where the needle floats on a pin. This provides smooth movement and it doesn’t bounce around as much. The outer dial can rotate so that you can adjust for declination. There are multiple scales on the perimeter of the compass. Overall it’s a solid feeling compass and its very similar to many other ones that ive bought in the past (probably all made in the same factory).

I do emergency response and we are required to carry paper maps, in case phone networks etc. go down.I usually rely on my phone with offline maps but, if all else fails, I do have paper maps.I like this compass overall:- Bright color, easy to find in the bag even under stressful conditions- Not oil filled or anything but seems to work just fine for basic orientation- The bezel turns correctly- The magnifier works, it may be useful for small detailsOverall - good compass to have around just in case. If you are a professional GIS expert or surveyor you want something better. But for occasional use, amateur use, or kids, this is great.

While it's not a liquid filled compass, response is pretty good, and it settles in quickly enough for general use. Baseplate markings are easy to read, and the bezel turns smoothly. The tinted baseplate can make it difficult to read yellow or green markings on a map through the plate, but since most of my field use maps are black and white laser prints, this is less of an issue for me than it may be for some.

It's a durable well built, functional compass that's worth the $8.

Inexpensive compass good for use with Scouts. The degree dial is a sticker and not engraved into the rotating dial, so probably won't take well to getting wet. Seems to be a little more susceptible to nearby metal than other compasses I have owned. I was trying to use it with a map this evening and the metal legs in the table kept throwing the compass off.
