The compass is great underwater, the built-in retractor is perfect for a compass and saves purchasing a separate retractor, and a slate is a helpful addition for me with nav but also works great for holding the compass in the proper position. But the rubber lanyard for the pencil is incredibly weak, and broke trying to remove the pencil to use on my second dive with it (my AOW Nav dive). Easily removed the torn rubber lanyard, and can loop a not-fragile pencil keeper through there.
