Shown next to the current, traditional clay clumping litter box for comparison, which itself is XL in size and well loved by my cats. To be clear, the traditional litter box is on the left in both photos, and the pine litter box (trays and completely assembled) sits middle/right and right respectively. This pine litter box is somehow even larger, both in overall footprint and height, but I'm pretty sure the "usable space" is about equal. The reason for the overall footprint and height increase is it comprises two trays: an inner sifting tray and an outer tray. It appears that the inner sifting/slotted tray is about the same space as the traditional clay litter box, which is where "the business" actually takes place. It's a very well thought out litter box with pitch perfect construction and all the relevant premium features included. It includes absorbent pads and inside plastic liners for the outer tray to make cleanup quick and easy. Included are circular rubber stick-on feet to help protect flooring (this style of litter box requires shaking back-and-forth to sift the powderized pine pellets through the slots). And the scooper is a deluxe size and clips onto either side of the box easily and securely. Not every cat will take to pine pellet litter, but this is the perfect litter box for those that do.

Absolutely love these. I've gotten two now, in order to replace my old plastic boxes. The size is perfect for a larger cat (mine is 6 and a little chunky). So it's very comfortable for him. The only thing I will say it's a little tall. But I don't see that as a problem. I think it gives more change for any "over spray to be contained. And obviously the awesome materials it's constructed out of will be easy to clear.

This is such a great litter box, with so much space. My cats went into it immediately and I noticed that with the high walls of the box, they made way less mess of the litter when coming out of it. The entry point also has holes which allows the litter to fall off their paws as they are stepping out Of course, this only works for the cats that don't jump out when finished. The sifter works really well, though I don't recommend it if you are using pellet litter or anything similar. the opening of the sifter are not wide enough for pellets to fall through. Although I am not a fan of the plastic scooper, I love that it came with one, along with potty pads and bags. This is a very well packed item. and is very durable!

If you are looking for a super duper large cat box, you have found it. I knew it was extra large, but I was honestly shocked when I took it out of the box. I had to clean out half of the utility closet I use as the "cat closet" just to make room for it, because it is easily twice as large as my old box -- which I thought of as a pretty large box. This also means that it requires a significant amount of litter to get a base layer -- I used all of a 14 pound box of litter, and then a significant portion of a 25 pound box before I finally had full coverage of the sifting tray and decent depth. So be aware, it will be a significant commitment in terms of litter to get started. I've also had sifting trays like this before -- you need a decent amount of litter, otherwise the grate for the litter to sift through just gets gooped up.This is my first metal box and I really like it! Cleaning is easy -- I just take the sifter out to my yard and hose it down. I haven't had to clean the main tray yet -- they send it with large litter bags as well as pee pads, so there's really no way anything is getting through to the tray below. This works differently from the last sifter I had so I was confused at first, but I figured it out. You place the plastic liner in the box, then put the pee pad on top -- this prevents the cat from possibly scratching holes in the plastic liner. Then you put the sifter on top of everything, and fill with cat litter. This is the part I was confused about, but then I realized the logic -- when you want to clean, lift the sifter and all the clumps will come out and the sand will run through into the bag. Then lift the bag out, put a new bag down with a pee pad on top, replace the (cleaned) sifter on top, then pour all the sand from the old bag back into the box on top of the sifter. Add additional sand if needed. This is actually much easier than my old box which involved switching back and forth between two different litter trays each time that stacked into each other. That wouldn't work will with this model since the tray is so large, you really don't want to have to pick it up and move it.I have no complaints on this one -- just be sure you want one this large and you actually have the space for it.
