I was unsure about this product reading through some of the reviews, and I have come to the conclusion that there are two types of people that buy this rack. People with mechanical common sense and those that don’t . The device could not be much easier if you follow the instructions. For those that pull the hold down straps completely out, well the fix is simple.press the cam lock flatten the tie straps and feed through. I also read of people melting a small hole in the end and using a wire to help feed the strap through…that would also work but that might be a step too far for some. So I give it a 4/5 as it’s not completely fool proof, but it’s rock solid and the best unit on the market to date.

Awesome product. Fits like a charm on Subaru cross bars. The only thing is only 1 bike track fits if carrying a SUP at the same time.No vibration at all. 10.6 feet SUP firmly in place on highway.Very versatile too..carried a ladder as well.

LOVE my new SUP rack! I was using a surfboard system before and my 12' board never fit quite right on it. But this thing? It's perfect! The first time I used it I went on a 3 hour road trip. I was a tad freaked out because I almost lost my SUP board once on my old system. I stopped a few times to make sure that the board was secure and it always was. Didn't move a bit. Same for the car ride back. The only thing I noticed was a little noise, but I was also driving 70+ on the highway so I'm sure that explains it. After that experience, I don't think I'll ever have to worry about my board again. Wonderful system- I highly recommend it!!!

I've only been using it for a few weeks but I love it. It makes loading my board a breeze.

This is my 2nd Thule SUP carrier. Had the 810 and yes lost the pads within a few weeks. 2 stars bc it is still the fastest way to get your board on and off the car BUT there are failings.-The grey pads come loose too easily then you lose them on the road somewhere.-There is still a screw in the newest 810XT model blocking where the excess strap needs to go.I really want to like this new model as I needed the longer strap, but the screw…I just can't. Ridiculous Thule!

I just purchased my first Standup Paddleboard - a BOGA Yoga Bamboo - and needed a car rack and a way to carry my board on my car. After doing a lot of reading of reviews and brands, I decided to go with Thule and looked into what I would need to make the magic happen. With Thule's awesome fit guide I was able to determine which pieces I needed in about 1 minute, and took them all to a shop that installed everything for me.The 810XT SUP Taxi is everything I could have asked for - easy to use, easy to adjust, and very well made. I didn't have any issues locking down my board with the strap system and it was ridiculously easy to tie down and "lock" in place. The carrier also has locks that use the same key as my rack system so that I can lock the straps in place, to prevent easy/opportunistic theft for those times when you just need to park your car for a moment while. (Of course, I could see this being a downside - after all, someone else who uses the same Thule rack system will have the same keys.)The one thing I might say was negative is that when I attempted to place my board on the rack by sliding it along the saddle pads, one of the pads "peeled" up out of its groove. I was able to shove that in just fine, but I'm a little surprised it was able to come out in the first place. The straps also have a little trouble fitting into the slot on the underside of the carrier (they are supposed to slide all the way in so they aren't flopping around) because there's a bolt that sticks out in the pathway on the bottom, and I think there's a groove on the top that the tip of the strap can get caught in if it's angled up. However, both are relatively minor issues compared to how I feel about my board's security on top of my car - I was able to drive between 65MPH-80MPH without any issues on the freeway, with only a little movement at the tip of the board. Without the board there's also a more obvious "wind" noise above my car, but I expected that and in all honesty, it's not something that I would take note of if I hadn't been explicitly listened for it.Other features I haven't tried - I know I can remove the carrier from my car rack but as I plan to use it regularly as the summer approaches, I haven't done so yet. In theory it seems like it should be pretty simple to do. Also, the Taxi is supposed to be able to carry two boards at a time, with both stacked on top of each other.Overall the Thule 810XT SUP Taxi seems to be built very well, and it's definitely user-friendly even for a beginner / first-time owner. As a first-time SUP owner this carrier is everything I need it to be, but it's also something I can see growing with me as I paddle more or take my board with me on more adventures. Thule has made a quality product in the 810XT SUP Taxi, and it makes my BMW sedan look pretty badass. I would definitely recommend this to transport your SUP.

I like the Thule 810XT Standup Paddleboard (SUP) Taxi though that there is a piece that needs to open and close to loosen and lock the straps, can be difficult to close. I figured out if you press down the grippy piece of metal under it, then pull down the strap holding the grippy piece down, you can push the outer piece close and you don't have to hold the side piece open because the outer piece pushes the side piece open and then the spring closes it. Also the product comes with four locks, which is nice as Thule normally doesn't include any locks, though the product has six spots to put the locks, four to hold each side of the product on the cross bars, and two more to stop the strap from moving, and counting the base part of the rack there are 10 locks total. I guess they think locking one side of the product down is good enough. I used all the locks on the front including the rack itself which didn't come with locks because if the rack doesn't have locks, someone could simply take the whole rack off including the 810XT and the boards.Concerning the screws sticking up where the excess straps are tucked away causing the straps to not go in all the way very easily, Thule said that problem was corrected on the 810XT, though it was a problem on the earlier model and that seller should take care of the problem and if they do not take care of the problem to contact Thule who will contact seller. Thule also told me that I did not get return emails from my questions even waiting twice as long as Thule said it would take to get a response because it was near the holidays and they are backed up. Ultimately they did take care of the problem for me.The racks to cause some wind resistance and a little noise at higher speeds. I drive a Prius Plug in and my mileage averages about 50 miles per gallon with the racks costing me about 4% extra gas.
