I recently bought this safe as I was looking for something quickly accessible yet very difficult to break into. For my needs, I prioritized the "safety" of the safe in particular. While this sounds obvious, I was surprised at how easily product testers online were able to break into other popular and similar safes available for sale. The Brute is on a whole different level from most quick access safes. Granted, this safe is also 3x the price of many options on Amazon. But, in my opinion, if a safe can't actually keep your stored items safe, then what's the point.I am very happy with this safe so far. It is very heavy (20+ pounds) and the black finish looks nice. I also like the Simplex lock. While a biometric lock would be quicker, the Simplex lock is fully mechanical meaning you never need to worry about changing batteries or plugging the safe into a power source. Also, the Simplex lock is pretty quick once you get used to the buttons, and you never have to worry about a read error that you might encounter with an electronic lock. Finally, V-Line fixed a flaw in the lock design at some point so that now there is a metal plate on the back side of the lock inside of the safe to prevent someone from hammering through it from the outside.Overall, a very well-built, durable product. It is pricy, but to me it is worth it.

I got the older vision that does not have a lock security cover as shown in the photo. This makes it easy to break in to. That was disappointing.

This safe is very well built, with heavy gauge steel unlike many other small bedside sized safes. The mechanism to lock the safe is also well built with no battery required, mechanical switches that are foolproof to use and set for your unique code. By far the highest quality portable safe I've ever seen with out the cheap flimsy non-secure hinges and electronic buttons of many competitors. This is the safe you want!

I just received this lock box today. I was replacing an electronic lock box that quit working & could only be opened with a key. Yeah....there's a reason a key is included with electronic locks. The first thing I learned when I picked this lock box up was why it's called a "Brute." It's around 23 lbs & very well made. One of the features I like is the gas piston that helps it open & also keeps the heavy lid from slamming shut. This feature is found on other lock boxes, but it works better on this one at keeping the lid open. It's a good thing it works well, because on this particular box, the lid does not open completely to a vertical position, which is OK. Inside the box, you will find three layers of removable foam padding to allow you to customize the interior the way you like it. I don't want to have to push down the lid & compress the foam to close the box, so I removed two sheets of padding & it's perfect. The bolt on this model is well designed; it's a solid piece of metal, unlike the thin sheet-metal part on cheaper models. And it moves in & out of a precision-welded receptacle and when the box is locked, there is NO looseness & NO rattle. On the front of the lid, you will find a handy welded-on lip that makes it easy to open the box quickly. This feature was necessary because when the box is closed, the lid overlaps the bottom section almost completely, leaving 1/2 inch. Without that lip, it would be very difficult to open the box. This feature is not found on other similarly-priced lock boxes. The overlapping design (along with the precision fit), makes it very difficult to use a tool to pry open the box.Since all (or most) of these lock boxes use the same "Simplex" lock that I'm familiar with, it only took me a few seconds to change the combination. For those who are first-time purchasers, you must read & follow the directions very carefully before changing the combination, or you'll end up with a locked box you can't open.As for capacity, I easily fit my HK USP 45 - which is a large pistol, along with three extra magazines and a flashlight, with room to spare. If you're wondering if a larger gun will fit, I also put my S&W 45 caliber revolver with a 5" barrel in it & it also fit with room to spare. This product is money well spent!

This gun safe has Extra Heavy Duty 10 Ga All Steel Construction. I am not sure I could even break it open with a sledge hammer. It weighs 22 pounds. It has an anti Pry Clamshell design that covers the front and two sides completely. This clamshell design should be more secure than the Fort Knox door which only goes down about an inch. I read one review where it had to be taken to a locksmith and drilled open when the combination was lost. I can believe it.There are four pre-drilled 1/4 inch holes on the bottom for mounting. I bolted mine to the floor using 3 inch long bolts to go clear through the floor into the crawlspace, one inch washers inside the case, and steel bars and washers under the floor. So it is not going to walk away or be easily pried up as it might be if I just screwed it to the floor using a lag bolt. My main goal with this box is to keep our home safe for kids. And the Oregon Legislature is considering a draconian law that says that if your guns are stolen, you are responsibility for the actions of the thieves when using your gun.The Gas Assisted Opening Strut is helpful, as the door is heavy, and would slam back down without it.It has a Quick Access Keyless lock. I like everything about this box, but this may be the best reason to choose this one.The lock is mechanical and not electronic, keyless, not keyed. The biometrics to unlock my cell phone don't work quickly or reliably, so it seems that a biometric lock would be more a hassle than a benefit. With a little practice, I can quickly open this lock in the dark just by feel. You can also change the combination. Just make sure you follow the instructions to keep the lid open and test the lock several times to make sure the new combination is working before you shut it. Then write it somewhere safe--in our case I gave the combination to our son. I think of the combination not as numbers, but as positions which helps me to open it quickly by feel even in the dark.I don't have to search around for a key. I can't imagine trying to rustle up my keys if I need to unlock this safe quickly. I can't imagine trying to search for keys when I need to get in quickly. You can also change the combination, but have to have it open to do this. Just make sure you follow the instructions to keep the lid open and test the lock several times to make sure the new combination is working before you shut it. If you are like me, write the combination down before you reset it and then keep it somewhere safe--in our case I gave the combination to our son.Another issue with electronic locks. If there is an EMP (electro magnetic pulse), either natural or enemy caused, there are no electronics to fail and I can still get at my stuff. And if I don't show my grand kids how the lock works, they won't know about pushing two buttons at once. The lock is protected from access its sides as it is recessed into an added thick metal plate. This is another plus over the Fort Knox.Inside, it has foam glued to the lid, and the three sheets on the bottom give another one inch of foam. You can remove as many as you want. There are also some small pads to help remove moisture and prevent rust that last about a year.I think this box is as secure as it can reasonably be if it is well bolted to the floor--more secure than a cheap larger safe, and almost as secure as the most secure home safes.
