Skip this one folks, the product description does not say that this piece of crap is plastic, cheaply made crap!

For the price, I expected something with a little better quality. It's made of cheap plastic and in my opinion, not worth the price I paid.

first one arrived broken but replacement was quick. Just be aware that it's a plastic case. Other than that, it works just fine.

If you are thinking about using this on your boat, Don't. The Tide hand comes loose on the tapered shaft after a few waves (always reads LOW TIDE), it can't take the pounding (and that's just in the Bay). Plastic chinese Junk that they stamped "WEEMS and PLATH" on ! Can't depend on it. Totally NON-MARINE rated !

The old clock lasted about 15 years in all kinds of weather, mostly extreme humidity, heat, cold, salt water environment. I consider 15 years service in this environment to be exceptional.

This is my third tide clock. Keep one at home and one on the sailboat. The third fail after many years in the salt water environment of the sailboat. I use the clock mechanism in a brass mounting on the boat.

Okay, perhaps they could print that fine print that is hidden inside the box somewhere on the outside - "The tide indicator is designed for the East Coast (US) and will not work properly on the West Coast". I understand it's not an electronic instrument, but please. I will keep it for the clock function, but the tide hand is just a design element at this point. The other reviewers have pointed out that the black plastic is cheap, so if this concerns you they do offer chrome and brass models for more money. If you're looking for a black version of a quality mechanical instrument, these are not your solution. FYI - they do come with black mounting screws. This "Bluewater" collection is not designed to be mounted in wet locations - perhaps they could choose another name to more accurately reflect the product. Don't get these wet - they won't take it. Weems and Plath do make a water-resistant series (Nautilus) but they are VERY expensive.Overall I think these are attractive units and I will see how they hold up over time and update this review. I purchased the clock/tide, barometer and thermometer.

This tide clock replaced a cheaper one that failed after a recent move to a different region of the U.S. I selected it because the price was right and because of Weems & Plath's reputation. It is apparently designed for bulkhead mounting in the wet environs of a boat, but that's not where I'm using it, so I can't comment on how well it works there. It keeps time and shows the tides accurately, but all clocks do these days.
