When I travel, especially during the fall, I need something to keep my pool skimmer basket from filling with leaves and blocking the water flow to the pump. After looking for a nicer solution, I ended up using a laundry basket and some bungee cords. It wasn't pretty but it was effective. Debris still got through the basket but not the sticks and giant magnolia leaves that were causing the most problems. This product seemed like a more refined solution but doesn't quite hit it's mark. It's easy to assemble and the netting material is very fine to stop any debris from getting to the skimmer. However, the design for attaching it to the pool is disappointing. They provide you with actual shoe laces to weave around some attachment points on the basket frame and then you have to figure out how to secure that to your pool. Also, the frame was too small for my inground pool. I knew this when ordering it and will build some extenders to cover the gap but it would have been better for more pool owners to make it slightly larger. It feels like someone designed and built this for their own pool and then sent it to market as is rather than putting some extra effort into making it a better product overall. Hopefully they revise it in the future as it does have promise and solves an important problem for a lot of pool owners.

I've been looking for a reasonably priced leaf guard for a while now. So I was excited to see the Haldane "Pool Skimmer Screen Skimmer Guard for Above-Ground/In-Ground Pool" offered.Assembly was easy, even without instructions. The screen secures firmly with the hook and loop tabs on each side. The screen affixes to the skimmer using shoelaces. This is a simple and serviceable technique, even if a little odd. I just caught the laces in the lid, rather than trying to tie them off. Springs might have been nice.My first challenge was the failure of one of the fixing loops on the screen. It literally fell off during assembly, before a string was installed. Once installed, I found that the screen was so fine, that it collected very fine detritus, presenting a cleaning challenge.Really, if you want to catch fine particulates, a skimmer sock is the best solution. The main reason I was tried this product is to keep gobs of leaves from fouling the skimmer. So a larger screen, one that admitted smaller detritus, but kept larger floating leaves at bay would have been preferable. Please also measure your skimmer opening. This unit would likely fit an above ground pool skimmer effectively, but was not wide enough to fully cover my in-ground pool skimmer inlet.

It does not come with directions so hard to figure out how to utilize the long shoe laces to attach to the skimmer

It looks just like the picture and it’s my lifesaver.
