Inexpensive repair of my trimmer! Cord was unspooling from my trimmer and a search on YouTube pointed to this part being worn. BTW this part should snap on and off and offer resistance when rotating it back and forth, mine was loose and so the problem. Problem solved for less that $8.

For real, this is the part that breaks, Don't buy a new weed eater. Replace this and don't be cheap like l was and restringing the empty spool , buy a new loaded cartage because that is the other half of the gear system and it is the donor part expected to be a one time use. I created all my own problems by restringing and using the spools over again.

I had been reusing the reel and lever for a couple of years. Finally they failed and I would go thru a spool of string in about 20 minutes. Got a new spool and a replacement lever and my string usage has declined dramatically. This part fit in the B & D string trimmer perfectly.

My edger/weedwacker was spitting out line or not letting it out at all. Now it works perfectly again. I popped out the old lever and inserted this one without tools. Watch a YouTube video to be sure how it goes in. I also bought new spools of line from the hardware store, as I realized the grooves that this lever engages with were damaged on the ones I had been reusing. I also grabbed a new cap with a spring attached, which was also available at my hardware store, as my old one had lost its spring. So replacing this lever, the spool, and the cap, did the trick for me.

You have to have this part or the trimmer will just auto feed all your cutting line in just a few minutes. It works like a charm. I bought this as my BLACK+DECKER String Trimmer with Auto Feed, Electric, 6.5-Amp, 14-Inch (BESTA510) did not come with this item and it was easier and faster to just buy this part than send the trimmer back when I realized the trimmer did not come with the part for some reason. Amazon nor Black + Decker would just send the part that was missing. They just wanted me to send the entire trimmer back vs just shipping the missing part so this saved me the hassle of sending the trimmer back, waiting on a refund and then reordering another trimmer and hoping it had all the parts with it.

From when it was brand new, my Black & Decker weed trimmer seemed to use too much line. I would go through a whole spool of line in less than 30 minutes of use. There were a lot of reviews of my model that mentioned going through a lot of line, so I thought it was normal. Then eventually, the line stopped feeding. I had to remove the cover and manually feed the line every minute or two. While doing this I noticed that the spool was damaged. I decided to purchase new spools and this new lever. The lever was easy to replace. Just use a screwdriver to pop of the old one and push the new one on with your fingers. You may want to take a picture before you remove the old lever so that you correctly orient the new one. Anyway, after replacing the lever and using the new spools, the weed trimmer worked better than new. No more burning through spools of line like there's no tomorrow. I can trim my lawn more than once with a single spool, as opposed to using multiple spools for a single trim. I don't know for sure if the lever, the new spool, or the two parts in conjunction fixed the problem. However this lever was cheap enough for me to take a gamble on it. Ultimately, I'm happy that I bought it. In fact, I will purchase another one just to have a spare on hand should I ever need it.
