navigational

The US Army Lensatic Compass, the most common military instrument for measuring direction, was first during World War II, an evolution of the pre-war Compass, Prismatic M-1938. At that time, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was responsible for compass procurement so most models had "Corps of Engineers" stamped on the case. Equipped with a sighting lens and a foldable cover, which allows for accurate aiming and reading of bearings. A shiny brass lensatic compass is a precision navigational instrument often used by outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and military personnel.

Well made. Attractive to care. I was so pleased he liked it. And I can tell when hen he does. He’ll fool with it for hours.

Very nice looking and heavy, solid made, however it doesn't work. The hand doesn't move at all.

I love all things brass. I love the patina that time leaves on them and the weight of the metal, making all things feel substantial and important to carry. Not this compass. It’s light and flimsy and the accuracy leaves much to be desired. Not a piece of equipment you would want to depend on for navigation, which is the only purpose of the thing. I am keeping it just because, but never would have bought it in the first place in if I had the chance to hold it before.

Bought it for a business gift and it does the job. Bought some black velvet bags to put them in.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much more than aesthetics since I picked up to be part of a costume. And it does okay at that, given that it's metal, interesting, and it does look the part of a vintage compass, especially when closed. The push-button on the side appears entirely cosmetic, but that's fine for the purposes. My rating for it is as strictly an aesthetic piece, and I would strongly advise against using this device for any kind of navigation.Mine does work as a compass, insofar as it CAN point north, though you pretty much have to set it on a flat surface to get a good reading. The needle tends to swing rather wildly with the slightest movement when handheld, including those including those brought on from breathing, since the rotation of the compass plate is completely undampened by any medium such as mineral oil. You can get a much more functional orienteering compass for the same price which will give a quicker, more accurate reading.

Los materiales son muy malos, la brujula se estropeó después de solo un dia. No la recomiendo para nada, no por exposición.
