I've tested this meter against another, supposedly higher-quality meter (and more costly), and I must say that this meter was easier to use and provided more consistent readings. The digital backlit screen is easy to read. I only needed the meter for reading pH and temperature, and it did everything I needed with less complication than a higher-end meter. There was some fluctuation in the pH reading when the meter was first entered into the water, which is why I gave it four stars, although that may be a standard way these meters operate. The temperature gauge was accurate and steady.

This is a great alternative to water test strips and solution based test kits. You are required to calibrate the PH before using this tester which takes about 5minutes or so to perform the 3 different calibration steps. The tester comes with one set of calibration powders and instructions to calibrate. The powders included are reference, high and low PH. Once these steps are complete, you can immediately start using it.The tester is similar to other digital testers, but this one has a cup that doubles as a probe cover. I was a bit disappointed to see that the PH reading was a full point higher than my tried and true API PH test that I have been relying on for decades. This test for those not familiar uses a vial that you put 5ml of test water in and add 3 drops of PH test solution. Cap it, shake it a few times and check the reference color chart with the test solution. It takes about 10 seconds to perform. The MFCIR tester takes about a minute to settle on the final reading of PH. It starts high and eventually settles out to the value of PH. I will disclaim that I only use it on my Koi pond weekly and after water changes so I am always around 7.0I have confidence in this tester since using it for a month or so and it is spot on when comparing it to the API test kit. I do find it convenient but it still takes about 30 seconds longer to read than the other. I just need to do something else while I wait for it like feed the koi lol. My only reservation is when I need to recalibrate, where to get the calibration powders and when I need to recalibrate.I hope this information has been helpful to someone!😊

Worked perfectly after calibrating. I use this meter to test the pH and EC values of my hydroponic garden. So far I’ve tested everyday and have yet to need to recalibrate. I have an older test meter, but I wanted one that would also test for salt values (future salt water pool please;). Both work perfectly and I was glad to have another meter to compare test results against. It’s was easy to use and setup although I wish the instructions were as easy to follow as my other one. Its readings are accurate and the chemical levels matched my older test meter that has worked flawlessly for years. I appreciated that the cost was less than my other one so I know what a great value this product is. The only drawback, is the values it’s requires for calibration. My other one uses a more standard pH test (4, 7, 10); this meter requires pH test levels of 4.00, 6.86, and 9.18 which can be harder to find. I wish there was a way to change the values, but at least it came with solution powders. Simply add water, swish, test, and set your calibration…just don’t forget to start with 6.18, then 4, and finally 9.18. Make sure the temp 25°C, if not, use the chart on the back of the packets to adjust calibration values. It did not come with an EC calibration solution, but I used what I already had on hand. It was confirmed to be accurate so I think you can trust it was factory calibrated. I still recommend testing yourself and always recalibrate at least once a month if used often. If not, recalibrate weekly or before each use. It draws power from 4 small batteries that are easy to replace when needed. Overall, accurate and useful product.

We got this water tester primarily to help us maintain the quality of our swimming pool water which originates from our well. Our pool uses a chlorine-based sanitation system rather than a salt-based system. We typically use pool water test strips to visually assess 6 water quality attributes, and we were looking for a product that could complement our usual water testing process and to help alleviate some of the associated hassle. This water testing product has, among other functions, only two which were of particular interest to us: (1) pH testing (since this is closely associated with alkalinity), and (2) Total Dissolved Solids – TDS which will indicate when our pool water has enough undissolved particles to warrant complete replacement. The other functions of this device (other than the temperature sensor) are primarily oriented to testing salinity– which is beyond our needs.Calibration. Calibrating this water tester for pH is a real nuisance; to calibrate this device, you will need to do some Celsius to Fahrenheit conversions also. Our ideal is to have our pool pH between 7.2 and 7.8 at around 75 degrees F (which is 23.8 degrees C). There are 3 packets of powders to be used in pH calibration. One calibrates for pH of 6.86 at 25 C – which is within our desired range and at 77F. The other 2 packets calibrate for pH ranges that are either too low or too high for pool comfort so we just disregarded those.OVERALL: This does appear to be a quality product but is difficult to calibrate, it is difficult to read in sunlight and it tests more functions than I really needed for testing pool water. Given my specific needs for testing the quality of our pool water, I will revert to using my 6-attribute test strips as an easier and more thorough tool.
