Installed everything only to have the wheels not turn without some force. Disassembled piece by piece until I measured the drive shaft and compared it to the OEM part. The replacement shaft was 1/2” longer on one end compared to the turbine wheel and 1/2” shorter on the other. The longer end was protruding too far into the wheel causing it to not be able to turn. Bad product.

Most items fit; however, after replacing the Polaris axle with the one that came in this kit-the wheels would not turn. Had to spend another hour putting the old axle in and wheels turned properly. Thank goodness the old axle had no problems. Could have used a new clamp to hold the tail on. 3 out of 5 stars for the bad axle. 😝

I ordered this repair kit to rebuild my Polaris 280 pool sweep that had quit running. The set includes all the wheels, bearings. a new float, a new tail and a net leaf bag. Basically, all the moving parts on the pool sweep. There aren't any instructions but there is an old youtube video that walks you through the process step by step. I put my laptop on the table and simply paused it between steps. There are some steps where it is important to pay attention; the blocks that hold the wheel axles onto the frame are slightly adjustable to insure engagement with the drive shaft so pay attention to that or the wheels won't turn. When you have the frame disassembled, pay attention to the water nozzles that shoot water up into the leaf bag, and the small jet that directs water at the paddlewheel. Make sure they're clean as the sweep won't work properly if they are obstructed. It should take you an hour or 2 to complete the rebuild, which saves a lot of money over buying a new sweep. I had a back-up valve behind the pool sweep as the sweep would get stuck on the concrete steps. I replaced the back-up valve with a swivel connector and found the rebuilt sweep doesn't get stuck, so I'm running the system without the back-up valve. It's running better than ever now. The only problem I had was that one of the plastic screws holding a wheel onto the axle was a pretty loose fit and I couldn't tighten it properly. I put a few wraps of thread tape on the screw; that solved the problem.

Rebuilding the 280 is pretty simple if you research and watch videos online, be advised there are no instructions in the box here. Overall to replace the 3 wheels, head float and tail sweep, I was into this job for about 30 minutes. No surprises and the rebuild is pretty simple even for a first timer. Here's my rundown of the parts.Wheels, Tires and Bearings are all of good quality and fit just like the originals. I used the original hardware because it was in good shape. The bearings all turn smoothly without any noise or grinding. The tires come installed but I would take some time to make sure they are on straight. A couple of mine weren't seated properly causing a high spot that will cause the cleaner to run slowly or erratically if not corrected.Turbine, Axle and main Bearing - I did not replace all these as mine were in good shape but they are identical in size and dimension to the originals. Same with the bearings, they come installed in the pillow block and turn smoothly.Tail Sweep - Comes with the scrubber installed however it does not include a replacement for the Tail Sweep Pro end piece. If your's can with this accessory you can simply detach and remove it on the new tail.Swing axle and Idler - all are of identical design and quality of the original parts, this IMO is the trickest part of the installation because the swing axle is spring loaded with a tiny spring that needs to be installed without losing the spring. Did not cause too much trouble however. If your spring axle is in good shape it's probably best to leave it until it fails. At under 100 bucks this is a good value for the money, I try to replace the tires a wheels often because they take the most abuse from my concrete pool shell.

Full disclosure: this is the second set of these parts I've acquired in the past few weeks. I have been so impressed with the quality of these parts... AND with the zip it put back into my Polaris when I did an overhaul with them. Recognizing that even the best parts eventually wear out, I got this second set to prepare for the future! This is a comprehensive set of internal parts for the Polaris pool sweepers (mine is a Black Max 280, which I've redubbed as a Biracial Max 280 since I'm using white parts where there were originally black parts). It includes the wheels and idler wheel mechanism. The quality is great and I believe they will last every bit as long as OEM parts, without that HUGE OEM markup! Seriously, if the OEM parts were bought individually from a pool store, I'm sure we'd be talking about hundreds of dollars worth. Check out some original parts if you doubt this!My Polaris was in pretty good shape, but I overhauled it using every new part, and it's working incredibly well. My old sweep hose was getting pretty thin in spots, and some leakage kept it from being very effective... now, with the new hose with sweeper foam on the tail, even the bottom of the pool gets scrubbed every day.Very happy with this kit. Definitely recommend.

I was worried this might not work on my Polaris 180, since it's listed as the 280.. but it all fit perfectly! It brought new life to my little 180 pool sweeper. Parts are all secondary market, but they are of good durability and fit. Parts are easy to install and they work!
