Just placed this on the pool skimmer today. I believe I am going to Ike this. I had one of the stainless steel covers with a mesh bag, over the skimmer, but this skimmer guard looks very neat and crisp and will not rust. Once you put it in, it will take care of itself-easy!I did not use the tension rod that it came with it. I like the idea of it, but I did not want to place it in the skimmer pool mouth opening and did not want to place in the top opening because I would have to remove it each time I cleaned out the skimmer basket. It would work fine in the opening, but that was just my preference to not do that . I ended up pulling the stretchy cord through one of the screw holes and trying a knot on the top to secure it tightly.I do wish that the product came in a smaller size, as you can see from the pics, it is much wider than my skimmer opening. One thing that I absolutely did not like is the pointy corners on the guard. I used our belt sander to round the corners. I did not want to take a chance that our pool cleaner or robot skimmer could bump this and jab the corner into the liner.

We have a tree directly over our pool that drops little fuzzy caterpillar-like things in such huge quantities that it clogs up the skimmer basket constantly. I was hoping this product would keep the fuzzies out and it has done so beautifully! Now I simply scoop them up and my pool filter is able to continue running efficiently. I was worried that the robotic pool vacuum might knock the grate loose, but it does not. This is also a great way to keep toys and other floating items out of the skimmer.

perfect, especially if you're like us and needing a skimmer cover but not having a clue as to what brand or model skimmer you have. we have a pretty large pool and a fairly good sized skimmer, but this covered the opening no problem, with PLENTY of extran room. I thought the pole and string idea was a little janky at first, but once installed, it actually has worked great, hasn't budged, and was EXTREMELY easy to get in place. the holes are large width wise, so it still lets plenty of water in no problem but narrow enough that it keeps most of the debris and floaties out. could work for pretty much nearly any flapper door set up. much sturdier than I was expecting, too.

I ordered this as much to keep our floating lights out of the return as much as any other debris. Our pool is older and doesn’t have a built in light. So we use the floating type and they work great. Except they are UFO shaped and there is nothing to keep them from going into the return. I had been considering various ways to block the opening out out blocking the water flow when I came across this screen. Problem solved. I packed it and immediately wondered if I had made a mistake. The screen was good although larger than I had realized. But why do I have several feet of elastic cord, was my thought. I looked for directions and didn’t t find any. I noticed the tension rod and decided I could figure this out. It took a few tries to get the tension correct but I was able to get the screen mounted. And it keeps the lights out as needed. It also does a nice job of keeping the bugs and other sections in the pool. Not exactly what I wanted. I am exploring ways to modify it so that those things can pass beneath it but not allowing an opening large enough for the lights. Overall not bad but depends a bit on your needs and pool specifics.

This screen is a brilliant idea. I find squirt guns, plastic bags and all kinds of junk in the basket blocking water flow. This screen greatly minimizes this by keeping them from packing together. The screen has a lot more surface area so even with a lot of stuff you still get good water flow. The idea is to use the smelly stretch rope to secure the panel to the expanding shower curtain like pole which twists to expand.I show a pic of how I tied it and attempted this. The problem for me is that my intake tapers down all the way to the basket. So I can't really secure the pole to the side....you know...I just thought of this but I should try a vertical pole mount instead and connect top and bottom ropes instead of the side.I placed the screen the took one of the longer side ropes and placed around the pole as per second picture. Then grabbed the other side and stretched it and put around the pole as wellIf you secure it in the basket cylinder area you'd have to move it when you empty the basket so that's no good. My pic is just showing how I looped the string around the pole. For now I put it into a crack which isn't ideal but works. One could try waterproof duct tape or double sided tape or epoxy although you could only do the top with typical water levels. This wouldn't work well with any pool cleaners that need a skimmer attachment though. You could also drill one half inch holes into each side of the intake with a carpentry bit so it would stay.I'll try the vertical mount thing. Note you twist the pole to expand it. Have it about 30 degrees sideways and expand. Then as you straighten the pole you should be able to get a pretty tight fit. Do not try to tighten the fit by twisting the pole...it won't work.Anyways I love the idea and it can definitely help stop pump damage and lack of filtration especially if you have sloppy kids.

This skimmer guard kit was a complete bust for my pool here in Dallas. The idea of preventing leaves and debris from clogging the skimmer basket seemed great in theory, especially with all the trees around. However, the "spring action" net system was flimsy and didn't stay in place at all. It kept collapsing and letting leaves right into the skimmer. Assembly wasn't as easy as described either. It ended up being more trouble than it was worth and didn't do anything to prevent blockage. A total waste of money.
