Creates smooth flow of air to reduce wind noise between gear mounts on Yakima crossbars

Looks impressive online, far less impressive in person. Like "Where's Waldo", try to find the Wind Jammer on my Dodge Ram rack. There is some improvement for sound, the reduction is random. Obviously, one isn't big enough for my vehicle. I've had much greater success using a kayak cross bar pad, I only had issues with noise when my pad wore out. I'll just go buy another. Southwind Kayak makes a very long lasting pad resident to fading, etc.

Does cut down wind noise but does not eliminate it. I would say it cuts down by 65-70%. Not sure if length of your bars makes a difference but maybe it would work better if you had a shorter bar pr if the windjammer was longer. Alright for what it does but price seems high for what it is. Maybe you could make somthing like this on your own.Another fear is it could easily be stolen since it only snaps on (no tools needed)

It's not night-and-day for me but it's an improvement. Two of these on the front bar got rid of the contant ~100Hz Wooooooo noise at interstate speeds (2015 VW Golf). There's still the general whooshing wind noise and some high-pitched whistle but that ghostly resonant tone is almost gone. I haven't tried the fairing but these are cheaper, more subtle, they don't interfere with the sunroof and they don't add any frontal area or drag. The red "YAKIMA" looks like it could be peeled off. But they are still overpriced pieces of plastic. You could 3D print these things for a couple of bucks.

I was shocked the first time I hit 50 mph after I installed my Yakima roof rack. The howling was seriously intense, and it over powered my music on the normal volume setting and was still outstanding after increasing the volume. I obviously had to do something.I initially began looking for a fairing until I stumbled across this little gem. I was skeptical, but after comparing reviews with the Yakima fairing, my decision became clear because I wasn't too excited about how a fairing would look on my car (2013 Impreza). The price on the WindJammer is better (even when purchasing one for the front and rear cross bars), and it is much more discreet than a fairing. After putting them on my roof rack I was very pleased once I hit 50+ mph. The howling was gone. All that remained was a very small amount of wind noise that I'm assuming is caused by the towers. However, the noise is minimal, and after several months of driving I don't even notice it anymore.I'm psyched on this product, and would recommend it, over a fairing, to anyone in need of silencing the beast created from rod cross bars. It works great, it's a breeze to install, and it adds a nice stream lined look to my roof rack. Like all the Yakima products I own, I'm definitely very satisfied with the quality and performance.

I know that not every review is perfect. I can't say this product is junk because it's technically not. It's a pretty simple design and can be easy to install if you are able to reach and pinch it together.I have a 2012 Focus Hatchback and this WindJammer didn't seem to help. I have a sun/moon roof so it's simple for me to open that up and adjust the pitch of the WindJammer while driving. I was not able to find that happy medium which would make much of a difference. It actually seemed like if I inverted the WindJammer so that it was backwards, I had better luck with noise reduction. I don't drive like this however since the thin snap together end shouldn't be facing the oncoming wind.I'll probably keep this on my car and deal with the wind noise but I wish this had worked better. Perhaps purchasing 2 and placing them next to each other may help, but then you'd for sure have to remove them when adding a Yakima piece to the rack.

Be prepared if you buy this, it's about 25cents worth of plastic. Yea maybe it works at reducing noise substancially, and it's high quality HDPE with UV protection and whatever, but I felt jipped when I got and opened the box.And this is even after reading a review saying exactly the same thing I am now. I'm stubborn and ordered it to avoid buying a fairing. If you use rack pads you won't be able to have both on at the same time since this takes up about 10-12" of the middle of the bar..

When I first purchased my Yakima system, I considered getting either a faring or the WindJammer, but decided against it thinking to myself "How bad can the noise be?" Well, around 35-45 mph, the humming noise coming from the bars was very loud. (Almost as loud as a typical vacuum cleaner.) Above and below the 35-45 range, the noise wasn't as bad, but still very noticeable. After reading other reviews, I decided to give the WindJammer a try. Honestly, the windjammer looked as unimpressive to me in person as it did in pictures online, simply a tear-drop shaped piece of plastic and I found myself skeptical that it would really work. Installation was a breeze, simply unsnap the edge of the WindJammer, slip it over the bar, and snap the end back in place. After going out for my first drive, I was a believer in the product. I was amazed at how much of the humming noise this cut out. At high speeds (65+ mph) the wind noise becomes pretty apparent and starts to get a little bothersome, but it is better now then before the WindJammer.Another very slight issue that I had was that when going through a car wash, the spray hit the WindJammer and spun it down, hitting the roof of my car. No damage was caused to my roof and I simply had to rotate it back into place by hand to correct the problem. Honestly, it surprised me a bit the first time I was washing my car and hit the then mysterious "thunk", but now I don't worry about it at all. This is a great product that works well. I didn't want something as large as a faring on the front of my roof and this was a good solution to my problem.
